I can barely remember the long hot summer of 1976, so to jog my memory I typed into youtube "1976 summer uk" The pathe news reel video revealed little of the summer of 1976 but focusses on womens tits walking through London, it's so obvious that even pathe commented on in the comments. Worth a look for the nostalgic or generally perverted amongst us!

Have you seen the nostalgia programmes about television back then? This is par for the course.

I had chicken pox at the beginning of that hot summer and when I started at secondary school in the September we were all given lectures about conserving water and keeping cool. We were all in our new wool school blazers.

And suffering a long and hot drive up the A1 to see relatives in Newcastle. ... a white Ford Cortina Mk3 with black vinyl seats was ouch ouch when wearing shirts

The nearest thing we got to air conditioning in 1976 was when my mum got us to sit on damp towels in the car ... so we didn't take three layers of skin off when we peeled ourselves off the boiling vinyl!

I remember going on holidays & being stuck on the motorway to Bournemouth. My father turning the heating on to cool the engine????. We all nearly died of heat exhaustion, with both parents smoking Embassy Regals in the front! Kids don't know the real meaning of car sickness these days!

When we did go on holiday it was to North Devon with cousins. One car would have ALL the cousins and the other would have the adults. One child would always end up sitting on the lumpy divide on the floor in the back.
