again its a pile of pish, as humans we are far to unique to be pigeon holed, and in fact we dont really know enough about anythings minds to make concrete statements do we? lol

the nature and nurture debate will be with us a very long time until we have clear mappings of what is "thought"

to say we are predisposed to a certain way from the genetic standpoint really is the cop out of "god made u that way",so indeed that sorta takes any responsibility out of our hands...of course thats if u believe there is a point to anything with a possible leaning to psychopathic tendencies lol

There is a lot of research that suggests we all are.. we are certainly not programmed to be with one person.. Thats social not nature..

I think men are just worse at hiding it than women if I am honest. From my experience with therapy that is often the case.

Can we define faithful as "having sex with only one other person during a period of time that constitutes the relationship" ? For me unfaithful begins somewhere else... so the discussion of whether men or women are programmed is possibly quite a different one?

The ideals that society value so much about faithfulness are not natural to apes nor humans at all.

Women like real men the same thing attracts a woman now as it did 1,000,000 years ago.Good looks (sign of strong gene's healthy body),Social status in the group (she's going to be looked after and so are her offspring),Respected by his peers (other men look up to them insuring his family and her safety)

We can all bugger about quoting high morals but animal instinct is not moral and we are animals like it or not.

Generally I agree with the first bit.... it explains a lot and is very common in nature.

However, monogamy does exist within the animal kingdom. Other animals do stay with the same mate for life.

The question is... is it something we did do naturally a very long time ago, forgot about and then reinvented or something we have learnt.

In past studies of so called 'primative cultures' where the presence of what we would now may call 'the moral code of humanity' was limited, there is still evidence of what we could call pairing.... this being in parts of the world where the religion of the good book had not reached.

Which sort of confuses matters a bit.

One thing is for sure, the sexual behaviour of apes may help explain why we could behave a certain way... but is not a clear cut reason why we should.... otherwise it would be OK for an alpha male to drag a baby out of it's pushchair in Tescos, rip the babies throat out, fling it in frozen peas, before giving it's mother a good sperm-wash.

Our ability to work out and decide what is acceptable behaviour is not unique to the human race.

Conscience is a bit more tricky.
