I think generally most people in the Western world especially the UK, have, compared to some parts of the world led a sheltered life. This obviously doesn't include those subject to abuse or exploitation by others.

Depends what ones means by sheltered. Sexually I did for a long time.

If we're talking about living in one place all your life and having no adventures, then no I didn't

Yeah I guess so. I like confidence, older guys tend to have that without being cocky.

I had a very sheltered childhood. I didn't hear swearing until I started school and then it was only "shit" .

My mum wouldn't allow us to learn to play cards, we weren't allowed comics like Beano (but we read them at other people's houses lol), I didn't come across the word fuck until I was about 11...that all changed when I left home for college at 18 .

Did it hold me back? Possibly but I'm not sure in what way.

Define 'sheltered'. I grew up in the countryside so wasn't very streetwise, but that has never held me back. I had a horribly abusive home life though, which still casts a shadow.

Yes and no. It's had no impact on my adult life. I first had sex with the guy I married. .. And since him I've been grown up enough to choose my partners wisely so I've never had to suffer crap meaningless sex. I think I've benefited immensely from having a sheltered life.

Near crippling shyness and insecurity in teenage years certainly means on here that I struggle when trying to be myself and put myself forward when sending a message to someone.

Yes,had fairly sheltered childhood, grew up in house with manners, respect and general desire to do the right thing, all of which i tend to find largely missing from much of life these days from work to the standards displayed on the roads, perhaps a dreamer.....

My parents kept a lot from us and it made it difficult for me to stand up for myself, later in life. I didn't and still don't know how to argue.

Or maybe that's just how I am, because all my siblings seem to do ok.

Looks like alot of swingers seem to have had a sheltered life judging by the comments on this thread.

These seem to range from upringing, shyness, stale relationships/marriages etc etc .

So now they are feeling liberated and wish to experience things that they hadn't experienced before and have found a new zest for it.

I wonder if thats why those who have havent had a sheltered life or been in stale relationships etc and who have had good sexual relations throughout their life seem to be less hyped or excited about sex.

They don't seem to hold sex as such a high priority in their life like the ones who have had led a more sheltered life.
