Just watched the weirdest film

It was called high rise. It had a lot of promise, but tbh I had it on in the background while I did other things. It was that good!

What films have you had to switch off or stop watching lately?

Greater Manchester

If you think that's weird you should see A Field in England by the same director... or not.

His film Sightseers is brilliant though, so darkly funny!

Ben wheatley is a very good director, think 'High Rise' is his weakest film though. Starts well but gets pretty tedious after a while.

'Kill List' is my favourite by him, thought it was genuinely disturbing in places. He's got a new film coming out at the cinema this week or next called 'Free Fire' that looks different to his usual stuff, looks quite Tarantino-esq.

Sightseers is wonderful! I quite enjoyed High Rise - I thought it was an interesting adaptation of the book and quite enjoyable. Weird film? The Lobster. But again, I really enjoyed that.

There's very little that Lynch has done that I don't like; I even loved Dune, FFS and he had his name removed from that when they made the extended version.

Watched 'Elle' recently. I suppose it's a (word that rhymes with tape but can't be typed on forum) revenge thriller. Starts leading you down a certain path but then goes off at a very strange and disturbing tangent. Very interesting film. never boring but wouldn't say its enjoyable.

'El Topo'! Aye that's messed up. Now you mention it I haven't seen the last half hour. Liked the rest of it but just never got round to watching the ending. Must rectify that one.

High Rise is a J G Ballard story, so it's going to be a little challenging. Crash is another film based on one of his books, about people getting sexual gratification from being involved in automobile accidents.

Try watching Antichrist (Lars von Trier) or better still, search YouTube for Cremaster.

'Dogtooth' is a very odd greek film. About a manipulative dad who keeps his now near adult children in a state of perpetual childhood by keeping them ignorant of the world outside. Tells them things like cats are flesh eating zombies to keep them scared. Bit of familial sexual relations in it too if I remember correctly.

"What films have you had to switch off or stop watching lately?"

To answer the original Q;

I've only ever stopped watching one film... don't recall the name but it was a film at my local film society meet... the lead woman self harms and the way it was filmed with very graphic, lingering close-ups and oppressive, foreboding music made the watching experience too much for me and I felt very queasy!!

Strange, because I've seen many films with lots of gore/horror/violence and none make me feel the same way... that was very 'real'.

One film I wish I'd given up on (and hate myself for continuing to think it would improve!) was: Keith Lemon The Film. I want those hours of my life back

You didn't get as far as the live monkey brain eating then? Gross and then some. Met someone who'd tried that on holiday. Now ex-friend. You've got to be seriously broken to think that's an acceptable thing.

You'd hope the comment was based on the director's claims that the film is allegorical...which does kind of make sense.

Wonderful film, once you've got your head around the time travel paradoxes...which took me a couple of years of watching it and reading various websites, so I'm not entirely sure it was worth the time expended on it, but I still love the film.

It's well acted and in all fairness you do have that feeling of "what the fuck is going to happen next". I felt bad for the main character.

i watched a film about a guys car breaking down in a village and the mechanic of the village offered to put him up while the part to fix it came.

the part came, but the mechanic never fixed the car. this guy finds out the mechanic sabotaged the car so he couldn't leave the village.

the village is fucked up, right he catches a load of guys fucking something they shouldn't and starts to freak out and trying to escape...

the mechanic captures him, takes him back to his, shaves his head and makes him wear his dead wifes clothes and basically makes him his wife.

dunno what it was called but i've never seen anything so weird in my life and i've seen serbian film and all the other fucked up stuff.

I genuinely can't remember the end to that, so many twists and turns plus it's so long!

I do remember most of The Holy Mountain though, which gets far too meta in the last 2 minutes.
