What kind of thing are you looking for? Malmaison is nice, I recently stayed at the Hotel Ibis in the centre and that was fine too.

It is for work so can't be too expensive and has to be relatively close to the train station

I stayed in the crowne plaza near there years ago, short walk into the centre and right on the Thames.

In that case I can recommend the Ibis. It's about 3 minutes from the train station. There is also a Novotel next door.

Friar street Reading . Novotel 2 mins elk to station . Lots of bars . Look on google maps
