I've literally just gone back on the mini pill as it stops me ovulating so no periods - hurrah. Also, needles freak me out & the idea of having an implant or the coil stuck in my body doesn't appeal.

I hAve the mirena coil - because I tried various pills and I hated them - my body didn't agree with them. My sister got the implant and I really didn't like the thought or look of it also it's there and I don't have to think about or worry about contraception now plus it's stopped my periods X

I believe the implant is the same chemicals as the depo injection - which was great for me for about a year, and then gave me a near constant bleed for over 12 months.

I am very in tune with my cycle and follow it closely. Haven't used any form of contraception apart from natural family planning and condoms for 20 years, but we have 4 children and really do not want any more children so I am thinking of getting a copper coil. I have super light, pain free periods and I am worried about what it might do to my cycle.

Does anyone have good experiences of it, all I have read have been negative.

Mirena coil and condoms but thinking of having it removed.

The strings have disappeared inside (had a scan, all fine) and funnily enough seem to have cleared up my PCOS a bit too. But emotionally, drives me crackers and my skin and periods are still all over the shop six months later.

Is there anything besides a hysterectomy (I've asked, they've refused to) that will stop periods and babies?

Total abdominal hysterectomy along with cervix removed all due to health reasons. Even though I needed it for years Dr's refused due to my age so had to go private. Best decision I ever made and worth every penny. No more pain, crazy bleeding or cancer scares and bonus of no chance of pregnancy.

Still use condoms in case of STI's and get checked regularly though to be safe.

TNS2016 just a polite word of warning, the copper coil is known for its heavy bleeding & painful periods, I had no option as ive had breast cancer & couldn't us anything hormonal. The copper coil is deamed a bit old fashioned now as the Mirena coil is better with less bleeding for those suitable. "Currently A is using depo injection but we are looking to have the implant/rod next week.

Reading the messages it looks like the implant causes heavy periods most of the time around a year after. Is that a likely side effect and why a year?

"

You need to talk to your doctor. It's not a likely side affect, but it is something you should be aware has happened to a minority of women in the past.

"I'm older and kids grown/growing so had endometrial ablation, haven't had a period for years. Downside is I won't know when I reach menopause. Maybe not such a bad thing. "

I can assure you that menopausal symptoms go way beyond a simple cessation of periods.

"I am very in tune with my cycle and follow it closely.

S x"

I have had 3, the 1st one was awesome, light short periods, but I had to have it removed as I had to have some abnormal cells zapped off, the 2nd one was ok, if I remember rightly, until my body started telling me this one had been in to long, now I'm on my 3rd, and I get long periods with one super heavy day, the hospital told me (I went in for another reason) it is probably down to the copper, it has that effect. So I guess that how it works for you is down to you personally and the time of your life. I didn't want extra hormones it just is the easiest thing for me and it has certainly worked for me, although I would love to have a light short period again, you might be lucky and keep that, it would take a few months to settle in though, good luck with whatever you decide x

Lee has had a vasectomy so we don't need any contraception, with anyone else it's condoms, I cannot tolerate hormonal birth control of any kind.

My stepmum is a nurse and she said most of the people who have the implant, end up having it taken out early due to bleeding

I take it up the bum...... no harm done.

Not having a built in, internal baby development factory helps too

My ex girlfriend had the coil fitted. When she used to ride me in a certain position I could feel the metal string rubbing on my cock.

It was really off putting and uncomfortable. Just saying.

You can get them cut shorter if this happens. Just saying.

"Mirena coil for me. Second time using this after tirelessly trying pill after pill without becoming the world's worst hormonal woman. That and it really helps cut down my blood loss...

I'm on cerazette and since I started on it 3 weeks ago I'm a bloody mess. "

I've been on this three years and not had a period in them years. I do get emotional but think that is just me x

'Strings' gives the impression of something soft and flexible. From my experience of stabbing myself with them when I went too deep, they are far from soft or flexible

Lol. My sister was told by her doctor, after a blood test for something else, that she'd been through it and she'd not noticed. Hoping it runs in the family.

I had this with one partner years ago. Actually made penetration impossible it hurt him so much.

I was put on Cerelle and was a blubbering wreck for around 6 weeks then seemed to settle.

Stopped taking it due to other side effects becoming unbearable but give it time and hopefully your mood will settle too

Do you mind me asking how you managed to get them to do that so young?

Im 30 and my doctor wont even consider it an option

Nonsense. I'm much older than you. My sister (54) has only just come off the mini pill taken to control her periods.

Wow. My gp said 35 was really the upper limit. "

I had the mini pill into my 50s

"Mirena coil I was put on that after the cancer. Only had about 6 periods in 12 years.

Help to balance my hormones.

Dick has had a vasectomy no no chance of getting pregnant.

I thought there was always a very small chance of pregnancy even if a guy has had the snip?

There is and a small chance with the coil.

After 15 years I think it's safe to say the snip worked "

Absolutely no chance of the snip not working. They cut the tubes, leave a big gap so they can't touch and then cauterise both ends. Then you have to have 2 clear (sperm free) results.
