Jeff Buckley - Grace (if you don't count the live E.P.)

Van Halen - Van Halen

Counting Crows - August and Everything After

Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes (no one counts Y Kant Tori Read!)

Jellyfish - Bellybutton

Patti Smith - Horses

I'd struggle to choose between those!

"Greetings From Ashbury Park N.J. - Bruce Springsteen"

I'd vote for that, if The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle didn't wipe the floor with it and wasn't my favourite album of all time!

Plus, the live versions of all the songs he played from it were much better than the studio versions, particularly Lost in the Flood from the Hammersmith '75 show.

Find me a piece of written word that refers to '...Suicide...' as their debut album and I'll readily concede the point. It's the same reasons as I put the caveats about 'Grace and 'Little Earthquakes' in my original list.

Unless you just wanted to be a smart arse, who wanted to list a relatively unknown E.P. to boost your music industry insider kudos points? I'll take that as well, mate.

Er naw, and did I insult you anywhere? Don't think I did. I posted what I class as their first long playing work. I like it as it's rough and has a real live feel to it, even though not actually live per say. You were the one who arguably got 'smart arsed' by going all Wikipedia on my arse for liking a record.

My industry involvement doesn't trump or otherwise, a fan. Never said it did. Was merely pointing out that I know how it works with regard to 'fake' self released albums etc

Glad to see the forum hasn't changed though

And I didn't need to go to Wiki for it, I bought the damn thing from Shades back in the day after reading a quarter page article on them in Sounds way before Appetite came out.

I got '...Suicide...', thought it was OK, a nice raw punky, metal release but nothing more. Then they released ' Appetite...' and everything about it was a quantum leap: production, performance, song-writing, diverse influences, then it all went to shit!

I saw them at the Marquee and Manchester Apollo in '87 and two years later, it was Wembley Stadium, too much too soon and no room for emotional growth (plus, musically it was all over once Adler and Stradlin had left).

I had a similar info drop on Arctic Monkeys. My GF at the time knew a lad who had a band, who subsequently met them playing small venue gigs in which they shared EP's, at the time Who The Fuck's Arctic Monkeys was only really available at their gigs, I jammed to it, then forgot about it until I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor came out, & whilst they were good, I never knew they'd being one of the best British bands of all time, or certainly on their way to such a mantle

Fucking love the manics but really don't like this album. About 5 or 6 great tunes but then a load of overproduced nonsense that goes on waaaay too long.

The idea of the manics back then was a great one (literary references, dressing up, doing interviews the way they did) but they took a few years to back it up musically.

Great band but it's their worst album.

It's not asking best album by a band it's best debut album ...and this for a debut album is pure quality ....saying that did they actually do a bad album ?..nope "

Fair point and no, they never made a bad album but for me, bar 'hatful of hollow' which is great from start to finish, the other albums are quite patchy. I don't most of the songs on the first half of 'The Smiths' or the production on all of it, but thats only my opinion

"Kanye west- college dropout..

He's just misunderstood I think. He's so ahead of his time its crazy. For instance, his Graduation album feature the now famous Bear wearing a pair of Nike Air Mags, 4 years later Nike re-released them & they became the most expensive pair of shoes if all time. Even his Yeezy S1 collection was laughed at, the oversized denim & tshirts, military colours. Go in any high street shop & thats what theyre stocking!

Kanye West us a genius, you just have to remember that in 2 years time from when he says something, you'll realise he was right all along.

Van Halen - Van Halen

Counting Crows - August and Everything After

Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes (no one counts Y Kant Tori Read!)

Absolutely; August and Everything After

Jellyfish - Bellybutton

Patti Smith - Horses

I'd struggle to choose between those!

I dont like Oasis because their songs are mediocre & the brothers pretens to absolute hate eachother as a promotion tool for their side projects & any potential tours, as well as any renunion. I also think it was Liam G who said Arctic Monkeys were crap because Alex Turners lyrics never made sense, this from a man who said "slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannon ball"

Blur were better anyway

The B-52's: The B-52's Easily one of the greatest debut albums ever recorded.

The Stooges: The Stooges.... Opens with 1969.... what a belter of a tune!

Alright Still: Lily Allen is also a blinding first album.

Boy in da corner: Dizzee Rascal. One of the greatest UK rap albums ever.

Some cracking choices there

Its not my favourite Stooges album

but conceptually and as a statement of intent its just perfect. Definitely one of my favourite debuts.

Let's be dead honest here ,oasis got their timing bang on came along at the end of the Manchester scene and smashed it ...Noel himself admits to stealing virtually every tune he's erm written ....but love them or loathe then they are dam good at what they do
