I thought it was for kids too but for anyone. Some of the stuff people have created is really cool, big cities, monuments and re-creations of Ney Yoek, the Game of Thrones world or Lord of the Rings etc...

I'm trying to keep my city original looking.

It's a Good game. Played it a few years ago in xbox 360, pretty addictive. Used to play of a night when I couldn't sleep, soon tired me out !

Totally confused by your opinion. There are loads of no-brainer electronic games adults kill many many hours playing (candy crush anyone???) and nobody calls them on their life choices. Minecraft can at least be a very creative game because of its free-form nature. It was not made for children and it was not designed to be educational as you claim, not at all. It was picked up by educational institutions because of its popularity and the communities that it created.

Never have I ever heard someone compare minecraft to baeic real life physics. Suppose mine craft was also made to show kids ghosts and skeletons with swords are real aswell.

A world of my own

My sons love it and have created all sorts from lavish castles to posh spas for me! I don't have the patience to play games on the xbox but I can see the way it often helps them unwind so get why adults may also like it. I think people are being pretty harsh to the OP on this. We all enjoy different pastimes, there's no need for such personal attacks on people.

If we were all the same the world would be pretty dull indeed.

folk used to have board games like atmosfear or i used to read those survival horror books as a kid aimed you had to play..remember, you'd have to turn to a certain page depending on what decisions you made? they were fairly graphic, especially as they left it to the childs imagination, stuff like that has always been around, now it's a different medium...

call od duty is the modern army men, your racing games instead of toy cars,it's all games, and good fun no doubt, enjoy, but i would question 'serious' gamers...really? what's serious about it? your running about killing people or stuff or collecting stuff pretty much with a little cartoon avatar at the end of the day. i think it's hilarious grown up's think it's so 'serious'

i do see games as that...games, it's just a newer medium i guess, the scaelextrix track is now virtual and that mat you had with the map of the town on it as a kid you'd push your cars round?...that's just basic gta without the swearing and violence army men became your war games etc etc...don't get me wrong, i've loved playing games over the years, they're great, but they are what they are, games

Minecraft is great OP, I play it quite often, its not just a fun game, but helps creativity too.

If you have it on pc, you really should look into modding it too, theres thousands of mods out there that massively expand your options in it

There's a bit of a difference between an adult playing a game which involves horror gore death and violence in graphic detail and a kiddies block building game. I'm not a serious gamer by any means but there really is no comparison between the two. Minecraft was designed for kiddies to learn how to put things together and learn basic physics. Adults who play Minecraft without kids really need to take a good hard long look at their life.

Oh my God!! It's just a bit of fun sometimes.

I bought lego world for are two youngest so tested it out so I could show them how to play it got to say it's quite addictive, but then again I play with the real lego with them.

What makes me laugh is are teenage son and his mates play this rubbish minecraft,and he has the cheek to say the graphics were rubbish on my atari.

I've been a "Serious/professional" gamer for Blizzard on World of Warcraft for the first couple of years it was released.

Gaming is big business (one of the biggest now) and will only continue to grow.

Games developers use and pay gamers to beta test their games, checking for bugs, issues, fluidity, mechanics, as well as continue to test new or latest release, and provide admin for games, particularly online multiplayer games.

Some games require a high degree of intelligence, quick reactions, problem solving, dexterity and high level of hand/eye coordination.

As well as the ability to socially interact, communicate, coordinate and work as part of a team in order to progress.

Gamers can earn big bucks, from being employed as beta testers, admins, as well as some of the big competitions, which can offer up to £20 million for the winners.

Games, (one in particular being Minecraft) has been known and proven to provide all sorts of benefits and help to people, from young people to those with mental health and/or learning difficulties of varying degrees, as well as promoting and helping such people to develop basic skill sets and develop their educational learning.

There's plenty of people that will sit and watch TV/movies for a few hours. I would argue that games are far more stimulating and valuable to ones development than that.

However one chooses to entertain themselves, unless it hurts others, I'm not going to judge

You killed the dog? Your post made me laugh, I am the same - can't get the hang of "basic" controls.

A few years ago when my children were still quite young, they called me in to show me a house they'd built. They were more concerned with building wipeout-style assault courses and redstone circuits so this was novel. They walked me through your typical fantasy mansion, only they've made me my own room, and had put in it some of my favourite activities. I was wowed! My kids are autistic, and at that point in time they did zero pretend/role play and had next to zero awareness or understanding of anyone else's needs or desires. This was the first instance of them spontaneously expressing an interest in my well-being. So that's my Magical Minecraft Moment.

ChrisNik you wrote quite the apology there! This household lives off the computer games industry, so it's serious business for us also

I hadn't thought about it like that but that's true.

i do see games as that...games, it's just a newer medium i guess, the scaelextrix track is now virtual and that mat you had with the map of the town on it as a kid you'd push your cars round?...that's just basic gta without the swearing and violence army men became your war games etc etc...don't get me wrong, i've loved playing games over the years, they're great, but they are what they are, games "

I'd partly disagree. I'd agree that the more well known games are experience driven and are just games. These are your COD and Battlefield. But there are millions of titles out there now which you can't really compare to these AAA games.

Some games genuinely qualify as art for me, either through artistry in storytelling or in design. Or in world building or character.

Games also have a lot more potential for detail than any other entertainment medium and as a result you get the staggering amount of 21st century satire that fills the GTA world.

Wow that's amazing!. One of my children is autistic also, so i know how special those kind of moments are. How lovely for you.
