Seems to be a wide range of individual meaning around these.

For example, spied a profile where she's in the doggy position in the photo and described as 'Athletic'. We would say Average to curvy with nice plump backside to get hold of and bang.

Anyone else notice this?

I've seen many women here describe themselves as "average" when I would class them as slim or athletic.

And like you say, all these definitions are open to interpretation - athletic could mean NFL linebacker, or it could mean marathon runner.

Lots of guys and women put average as they compare themselves to the fact that most of the uk population is overweight.

So now they think because they are a size 16 they are average in size?

They fail to understand that the term average when applied to weight means a weight and shape proportionate to your height and frame.

But let them call themselves what they want and if their photos dont appeal to you then just move on to the next profile

I think its down to the individual, but also different angles will make your body look fatter or thinner so will change what definition you may be interpreted as

Since fab has such a limited choice of body size and shape descriptors it's bound to be a tricky one to pick. We're all not only our own worse critics but don't want to tick the box that might mean accepting some of our deep seated body flaws. Hence why I have chosen to put curvy, not ample or large or whatever euphemism fab has deemed acceptable for a bit too podgy. Like many have said, pics and profile text descriptions are a far better indicator of size and shape. Fab should just let us write our own descriptors; it's not even as if you can use them as a search parameter so they're kind of redundant anyway.

Possibly because a lot of people see themselves totally different to what others do,like when you hear a recording of your own voice it doesn't seem the same as what you hear when you're just speaking?

Not quite true I'm afraid

The bones and tissues inside your head can also conduct sound waves directly to the cochlea. When you speak, your vocal cords create sound waves that travel through the air to reach your inner ear. ... When you hear your voice on a recording, you're only hearing sounds transmitted via air conduction.

Absolutely pointless as it's subjective too.

I don't set out to mislead anyone with Average but someone might look at me and think Curvy / Large.

Based on my thought process I imagine this is same for a lot of people.

This is how I feel about it. I've picked average as a default. I'm not slim or athletic but curvy is open to interpretation. I like that there's a 'fabulous' option though.

Slim is thin.

Athletic is toned/musclely.

Curvy is shapley, like an hour glass as opposed to quite up and down.

Average is being about the right weight for your size, maybe just the odd lb extra.

True. But choosing a photo you 'look good in' is perhaps a different concept from one which is deliberately misleading. Which could of course, on occasion, be combined with a body description that's misleading.

Does it really matter how people describe themselves on here as a song as they have pics that show themselves accurately.

I've described myself as curvy because I prefer the sound of that to ample or large. Could be argued that I'm bigger then curvy but I do have curves but they are just curvier then some other girls curves

Perhaps. I think many people (and my experience here is with women) will have experienced meeting a person described as curvy who would medically be described as morbidly obese.

Being slim doesn't make a person fit, athletic or healthy. Over exercising isn't good for you either.

Your health is what matters

There's always one person who feels they need to tell people what they are doing wrong

You don't think health matters? Or you don't think there's a link between lifestyle and disease?

If I wanted medical advise I'd go to a doctor not take it off a pedantic poster on a forum

The fact that people are so reluctant to take advice (from the medical profession or otherwise) is the reason that the threads like this exist. "

What about those of us how have medical problems that contribute to our perceived weight issues?

I'm not reluctant. I listened to my doctor who said stop thinking (because you have depression), stop eating food (because you are overweight) and do this exercise (sit on a chair and swing your arms around). Great advice eh

"Slim is thin.

Athletic is toned/musclely.

Curvy is shapley, like an hour glass as opposed to quite up and down.

Average is being about the right weight for your size, maybe just the odd lb extra.

Perhaps. I think many people (and my experience here is with women) will have experienced meeting a person described as curvy who would medically be described as morbidly obese."

I can medically be described as slightly overweight. Less overweight than I used to be and approaching ideal but still overweight. Also less weighty than the UK average but I shall continue to put curvy and have plenty of photos including full length nudes in my friends gallery for people who care about that sort of thing to make their own minds up and apply a modicum of common sense much like I do. I don't think I've ever paid the blindest bit of attention to the terms people choose to describe themselves on their profile when it comes to me wanting to meet them. It only ever seems to be an issue in forum threads and most of the people I meet rarely post.

You jumped upon my first post, because I said it was health that matters. The fact that you have compared overeating to a mental health condition to one which the public associate with undereating to the point at which it is detrimental to health would indicate you agree..

Neither is ideal. But rectifying either surely starts with recognition of the problem. And the realisation that there may not be an easy cure. The main difficulty seems to be with representation, as you've said a person suffering with anorexia nervosa may not consider their body appearance in the same way as others do. Just as 'average' or 'curvy' users of this website want to change the way the want to represent themselves. One is very rare, and difficult to manage. And one is increasingly prevalent.

I don't suggest or advise anything, but I do bemoan the lack of role models promoting a healthy, balanced, outdoor lifestyle, and a society which increasingly accepts poor health choices and celebrates fads.

Doesn't matter how anyone wants to describe themself's as long as they have pictures so the person that potentially wants to meet that person can decide if they are for them.

If they disagree with what the person has put as description for their body size then just don't message them.

It's a bit tougher if they are a grey silhouette but then again why would anyone bother to message a grey silhouette looking for fun.

I picked large as well I am but wobbly belly would have been more apt haha!!

Technically im classed as disabled due to my hip and leg being so severely damaged so controlling my body size is a pain (literally) as I do need to exercise quite vigorously to shed pounds.

Personally however people see themselves is fine to put on, as long as they have full length pics to see before a meet then I dont mind as I can decide then if Im attracted to them, I have private pics in just knickers front and side on then people can see im hiding nothing!

It was bad advice, as it wasn't informative or based on a proper assessment of my needs. If I had taken her up on her advice I would have starved to death, been in a lot more pain and gone more mad, trying to stop myself from thinking.

For example, spied a profile where she's in the doggy position in the photo and described as 'Athletic'. We would say Average to curvy with nice plump backside to get hold of and bang.

Anyone else notice this?

Shot putters and hammer throwers are still athletes

"Boys and girls, we didn't want an all out medical war over health!

You ain't going to anything else when body shape is questioned..."

No ones body shape is being questioned. The ability to describe yourself a little more accurate is under scrutiny.

"Does it help to point out that the second b in bbw stands for beautiful?

Or does BBW actually stand for...

Big Buxom Woman ?

I think that is the correct terminology when BBW was first created.

Then the larger sized women changed it to Beautiful as they didn't like the term Buxom

Which ever it is, think both are complementary!

It should be complimentary "

Perhaps we should invent the acronym bbbw!!

Why should anything be under scrutiny? Aslong as we play by the rules fab set out then surely we can do what ever we want.

I put ample because I am. It's a guide body shape isn't it and we all define it differently. I don't look at it when reading a profile. I go by photos and my interactions with the person concerned.

I know, that's what I meant. It always turns into something more.

"I think it's down to the individual how they describe themselves isn't it?

Agreed.

Agreed but they should keep in mind they're "advertising" themselves and when we go shopping, we like to read an accurate description of the product "

I noted looking at your profile Mr is average (but average against what/who)

Mrs ample ( I can only see the one photo so assume please relates to your boobs though I can't think the rest of you appears to be)

You are clear happy with the options you've selected and that is great and as it should be.

But as stated in numerous replies it's all so subjective :/

I'm personally engage in conversation and make sure people are aware what is under the corset!

Average as in to my height and build.

The photo of the Mrs was before a weight increase of about a stone plus it was a stretch pose. So our descriptions 'accurately' describe ourbody type.

Thank you for trying to catch us out but no cigar, lol.

I notice that appearance is subjective and the options limited.

a quandary, could you change my mind?

Sizes of ourselves and others is completely subjective.

Not forgetting that the camera never lies to much.
