"A voucher - flowers will be dead in a week and she has a garden full of the things anyway. At least with vouchers / money she can get what she wants! Quick, easy AND practical! " I brought flowers that you can have indoors for a few days then plant out

"Mother's Day can be very difficult for some because not all mothers are loving and nurturing. The day is actually about returning to your 'mother' church and that was a chance for families to get together. Then it became the day servants were given the day off to visit their mothers. I think about it both as the day to thank and celebrate our mothers but, where that is difficult, to honour the person who has given us that mothering. We rarely take the time to thank people in our lives for all that they do for us, often quietly, so it's nice to have a day that reminds us to do just that. " Yes it is

"A voucher - flowers will be dead in a week and she has a garden full of the things anyway. At least with vouchers / money she can get what she wants! Quick, easy AND practical! and very impersonal " Why though? How is a gift of (say, for example) £50 for her favourite store, so she can buy something SHE wants from a collection I know she likes, any more impersonal than spending £50 on a random bouquet from a florist (that last week, and next week, will cost £25 but is artificially increased for Mothers Day?). Without wishing to sound ungrateful (as I appreciate any gift in the spirit it is given to me, of course) - many of the 'personal' gifts I got for Christmas are still in a bag in the spare room totally unused after 3 months, whereas I've used the cash I got to get things that I wanted! ;-)

What matters is the thought behind it. Buying a voucher or cash indicates laziness, but if you've considered all the possibilities and you think it's the best thing for her then that's fair enough. At the end of the day it's only between you, her and your conscience
