Sperm donors.

I've just watched a moving program about a girl in the U.S. who discovered she was the offspring of a sperm donor and her quest to uncover her roots on her father's side. The only thing she knew about him was his sperm donor number, No.150, and from that she found 14 half siblings. The New York Times picked up the story and the father read it and came forward. She and two of the other siblings eventually met him and he was an eccentric bohemian living in an RV on Venice Beach in LA. Not quite how they'd pictured their dad.

It left me with quite mixed feelings about the pros and cons of sperm donorship but one thing was clear from the programme: the donors are told that there is a limit to how many women their sperm is sent to and that is a blatant lie as another donor has 58 offspring!

God help the gene pool. The chances of an incestuous relationship will be far higher than it should.

"God help the gene pool. The chances of an incestuous relationship will be far higher than it should."

It'll be a boon for literature though, don't you know that lots of the best stories have incestuous plot lines in them?

I am so glad I watched it as well and yes it was a very moving and well made program,

I totally agree 58 (that they are aware of) is just not good enough, One of the 14 said she actively didn't date guys from the USA just in case. Thats a thought thing to have to think about each time you meet a guy the first thought you have is "are we related"

Fantastic program.

We have loads of "sperm donors" living around here but they do it the old fashioned way.

What they don't do the old fashioned way is hang around and bring up,pay for the poor little buggers that result.
