In a nother thread someone put forward the notion that the movie The Crying Game could be transphobic. I would dis agree,I'd say it was probably the first, and even the most, trans sympathetic movie. The character Dill is undoubtedly the subject of the movie and it is her tears that the title of the movie refers to.

Any criticism about the movie could be that it shows terrorists as more than one dimensional characters, they are human too.Monstrous humans,in most cases but human nonetheless.

I'm posting this because;by coincidence I happened to watch it last night,it was mentioned in another discussion and it probably did more to promote trans acceptance and understanding than any amount of militancy ever could.

Any thoughts?

I've yet to see it, one of those films that dropped off my radar. Is it worth watching?

I said it might be transphobic, the guys first instinct is to be sick when he realises that Dill is a man. The guy was very convincing it is 1 of the best twists in film history I think.

That makes it a bit relevant to some of the previous discussions on here.

The guy finds himself not sexually attracted to a TG person but sees through the superficial and falls in love with her.

I think it's a great movie and could be quite topical dealing with terrorism and trans acceptance. Although the current type of terrorist would probably be less sympathetic to a British soldier or a trans person. And the real bad guys get killed, spectacularly.
