Who takes it?

I have a prescription for it to attempt to lessen my migraine suffering. I've done the reasearch of how it works, side effects etc so what I'd like know are your positive and negative experiences.

Thanks.

My son was getting numb arms and tingling on them. Is your blood pressure high?

Mrs N has been on it for many years. From her experiences, it does little to lessen the likelihood of a migraine. She still gets frequent attacks that can only be dealt with as they occur.

That's just her experience of course, it may work for you. I hope it does, seeing Mrs N during an attack is not enjoyable.

I was put on this a few years ago. I had migraines following on from having viral meningitis, the side effect for me where worse than managing the migraine its self. Although I'm no longer on them I suffer with like numbness/pins and needles in my hands still.

They made me quite fluffy headed made me pass out due to the drop in blood pressure shortly after I took them (never had BP prior to taking these). I'm now being treated for BP.

That horrid sickly feeling, I used methods I read about on the Internet to change the cycle of mine. Going from one or two a week now 5 years later I get one or two a year.

My saviours were 3 simple things 1 good ear plugs ( as I used to get buzzing in my ears at the slightest noise ) 2 a total black out eye mask it's moulded to fit around during your face and block all light. 3 a frozen wheat bag wrapped in a pillow case on the Base of my neck.

Yep but it's been high for 30 years and previous drug therapy did nothing for that.

I was prescribed these for my migraines. Doc claimed they would lessen the auras that I get (they can last several hours). I found they made no difference whatsoever so gave up on them.

The side effects are reported as potentially severe and I'm initially reluctant. I will try the iced wheatpack though, anything to help the vasoconstriction.

Quite a while, I was getting migraines every 3 days or so and couldn't do much as a result. The tablets just seemed to space me out even more than I normally got and the auras had just the same duration and impact.

In the end I had quite a change of lifestyle which has, touch wood, meant I get a migraine once every 2 months at the moment.

I have migraine and was prescribed propranalol. It didn't agree with me at all. If you get any side effects I'd stop them immediately (rashes, nervousness) and ask for something else - I have tinitus as a result of them, which is crap.

^ hope you have a consultant not a Dr prescribing as many rely on meds that affect dopamine / serotonin. There's more options available but you really need a consultant prepared to spend time with you but they are a good generic I believe - they just didn't suit me.

Yeah, I hear you. I was recommended following my recent visit that I get a neurological consultation but the locum GP wasn't having any of it. I've had migraines for 33 years but that's not an apparent issue.

I've not decided what to do yet.

Just ruling out the obvious - do you have and neck or shoulder pain? Interweb says see a chiropractor

33 years of them have told me that I have no specific triggers, patterns or consistent symptoms.

I don't want to swap one set of problems for another though!

Go back and insist on a referral to a neurologist. They have plenty of other options that they can offer. Most of which the GP can't prescribe without their say-so.

At the end of the day though, you'll have to try what they suggest for at least 7 weeks regardless of the potential side effects.

I don't read the side effects list so that I can't worry, just get saffy to read them and be aware.

I'm a Midwife, I know how to find out about drugs. All drugs come with information sheets/warnings and if anyone is willing to take something without asking questions, then they can't complain.

How do you know I've not tried anything else? I was just asking about peoples experiences of that particular drug.

I don't know if you tried anything else to be fair, have you?

And no they don't all come with all the information, for example both piroton and nurofen can cause dementia and Alzheimer's later in life FACT. That's not on your info sheet love

What I have and haven't tried is not the point of this thread.

Is that all antihistamines and NSAID's that cause Alzheimer's? May I see the research please?

Like I said before, the info is out there, all anyone has to do is ask and look, waiting for someone to offer it is daft.

The majority of drugs are script only. Naramig is a triptan and I already take those but thanks for the suggestion.

For your migraine try 4 pints of water a day and 2 spliffs you'll be right as rain

Sometimes make me tired due to lowering my bp.

Can get heart palps if I forget to take one or don't take it on time.

Other than that they have changed my life

Considering the stench of that stuff can actually make me vomit, I doubt it.
