Something off of Bowie's Blackstar. The ending of 'Dollar Days' segueing into 'I can't give everything away' does me every time.

Bowie's 'Where Are We Now?' from a few years back always brings back fond memories of when our daughter was born. That bit at the end when he sings 'as long as there's me /as long as there's you' and then the song spirals off into that guitar solo, that kills me.

Nick Cave - 'Into My Arms' always gets me too. First dance song at our wedding.

Dionne Warwick's version of A House is not a Home. Dads funeral song.

And Elgar's Nimrod. Played by brass band. Lump in throat just hearing it in my head.

Kavinsky's Nightcall, unexpectedly listened to on the opening titles of Drive last night. Suddenly not just a silly broody electro pop song, but a requiem to loneliness isolation and loss.

Desire's 'Under Your Spell' from the same soundtrack floors me every time. Partly because of the sentiment but also because it says so much whilst seemingly doing so little. So simple, its perfect.

There's a few that make me well up.

Far From Me by Nick Cave is the one that reminds me of she-who-broke-my-heart

Ghost Town by First Aid Kit

What He Wrote by Laura Marling

but the most affecting is "Alicia Ross" by Kathleen Edwards. Bit obscure, even more heartbreaking when you Google the true story. The line "was your darkest day as dark as this one?" is the line that gets me

Only one song, only once.

Jonathan Coulton - That Spells DNA

https://youtu.be/Mx3xJYXoSoQ

"And while it's killing you dead , it will mess with your head

And it's the light in the dark that will guide you

It's the pages and pages of what you are like

In the giant book that's hidden inside you"

Listening to it while holding my then newborn monster. It just flicked some switch and the tears started. No sobbing, snot bubbles or whatever, just tears.

Lost my cousin tragically at 39 and it was played as we left the service. Crazy choice but he loved orangutangs. Luckily he had been travelling the year earlier and visited a sanctuary so did at least get to meet some
