I seem to have liberally doused a load of washing with diesel, not noticed, washed them, dried them and then put another load through.

Now I have two loads of washing that smell like diesel, washer and drier that smell like diesel and a very angry wife (not currently diesel smelling but she'll run out of clean clothes soon).

Any canny tips on solving either issue?

Re wash using your usual detergent mixed with one of white cup of vinegar an a cup of baking soda added,,,,

Oops indeed!

It's essentially just oil, very hot wash. Lots of detergent. If that fails, sounds like it's time for a new washing machine and a trip to the shops for you my friend

run the machine on a boil wash with plenty detergent but no laundry to clean the machine, then wash the clothes at the highest temp possible

Leave your wife to do the washing in future!

Pour some lemon juice into where you put the washing powder and put it on a cycle.

It will clean the machine and leave it smelling good

Leave the Country, but leave the Mrs with enough money to buy a new washing machine and a bottle of wine.

Many thanks for all the advice. I shall put them to the test as soon as I'm back home.

Leaving the country for a couple of days sounded like a good plan so I'm going to do that first!

Oh yes, I learnt that the hard way! VB still hasn't learnt to keep me away from the washing machine though

thats your excuse to not do the washing chore. just wait till your stuff gets put on a hot wash and it shrinks

Try using ,,ace,, that stuff works mirrkalls.

And if that don't work then it mite be time to go shopping.

I regularly get diesel on my clothes and the following always works for me.

Run the machine empty on hottest possible wash with detergent,white vinegar and baking soda or bicarbonate in the drawer.Then run on cold rinse with no detergent.

Fill a bath with some hot water,mix in a full pot or two of bicarbonate of soda or baking soda and plenty of white vinegar.Chuck diesel clothes in and give them a good swirl round.Leave them to soak for at least 24 hours.When they've finished soaking,wring them out by hand and hang them to dry.DO NOT RINSE THEM!!Once they are dry,wash them as normal but with half as much detergent again on top of what you would normally use,more bicarbonate or baking soda,white vinegar,and plenty of softener.

Jobs a good 'un!

I repair and refurbish agricultural,commercial,industrial and heavy plant vehicles and machinery so regularly get covered in diesel and oil,and the above method has always worked well at removing the lovely smell of diesel

Petrol fuel trigger exploded in my hand in a BP...

By exploded..I mean, came out at high pressure and my car fuel posrt couldn't "swallow" it fast enough and spat it back out.

...I always make things sound fucking sexual.
