Do a system restore to an earlier time, pre-update.

Wrexham

If you're talking about Windows 10 updates then there are a lot of first-boot processes that run. Building .NET runtimes, collating indices, scanning all files, etc.

Things should be back to normal once they're done.

Go back to windows 7 or even xp if you're not using a Linux distro. Windows 10 is filled with back doors and unnecessary bullshit. As far as I know it's possible to turn the updates off permanently from the registry (google how to do this).

Also defrag and do a disk clean up from time to time, they're windows system tools already available to you, although I use a program capled CC cleaner for clearing up space and clearing up the cache.

Very helpful advice, thanks....Agree also with everyone about wretched phone updates. I went into Carphone Warehouse yesterday (other phone shops are available) and a lovely young man helped me get rid of all the unnecessary stuff and stop the apps I never use from updating. Wonder if he saw my Fab icon...
