My job title is not important to me, but it clearly reflects my job. For example policeman, pilot......clearly reflects their job.

For me it does. At the moment with work there is some grumbles with a tupe process that is happening and some people are not liking their new job titles.

i don't have one, i just work for a guy i've known for years and i do different stuff at different gigs, i've never had a contract, i've never been told what my role is, i just get on with what needs doing.i was once described as the pollyfiller of festivals, if there's a gap in roles somewhere, christos can come sort it out

My job title is pretty spot on but I don't care about the title at all.

I've done jobs in the past where the title sort of dumbed down the job I actually did but I wasn't all that bothered.

P.s. OP that is one of the hottest avatar pics I've seen on here.

I have a very unusual job (and trust those that know what it is won't mention it on this thread), the title is exactly what I do but inevitably gets one of 2 reactions "that must be interesting?" (it is) or "Oh what's one of them then?"

And yes the title is impotyant, I love what I do

That's pretty much where I'm at. It's never been of huge interest or concern and actually even now I don't really give a shit what they call me, I know my worth.

However... you knew there was gonna be a 'but' right?! I wear so many hats because I do so many different things but now they've started denying the existence of one of my roles. It's like it just happens by magic and there's no need to acknowledge it. That's really not cool for me.

I'm waiting to take delivery of my new magic wand.

I'm going to pass it on and stop doing that other thing that doesn't really happen and see how long it takes for it all to go tits up.

My job title does say what i do. I am pleased with it now and it does mean something to me because i was being called a xxxxxxx assistant for many years after i qualified plus my pay reflected my job title but i did exactly the same job as the qualified staff. I now have the correct title and correct pay at last. I am very pleased because i found it hard to go back to studying after leaving school many many years ago. I feel valued now.

My job title just comes off a list of global job titles and bears little resemblance to what I do. Some of what I do can't be recognised officially because we have no 'headcount' to give me that new title.

It's only a description though. I have too much work to worry about it

My job title and pay is waaaay below my qualification, and totally doesn't reflect what I do. Unfortunately, I am deemed to be overpaid as what I actually do is no-where near the level of the role I am actually employed to do

You see that's always been my view as well... I'm curious though... do you think it would matter if you were to move jobs? i.e. your current job title doesn't match (not even vaguely) to the new possible job title?

For the record... this has zero to do with swinging.

For the record... this has zero to do with swinging.

It would matter to an extent. My job title sounds quite specific but my duties are broad and relevant in a whole spectrum of roles. I think I would be inclined to drop part of the title if I was applying elsewhere.

I really wouldn't mind but they are insistent that we have it on our email signatures. It just has zero relevance to my actual job. I wouldn't tell anyone my title given the choice, no title is at least not misleading.

Yes... I often get called an IT technician, but my job title is Network Manager.... Having said that, I prefer to be referred to as The Drummer.

hmm..yeah, not being acknowledged for certain things can be annoying, i've done stuff that's gone un acknowledged before but to have something you do regularly swept under the carpet has to be frustrating

as you say, just stop doing it for a while and see who comes calling at your door as it were..i find a lack of action can be more noticeable than being super productive if being productive is the norm. folk don't notice efficiency as much as they do problems. make 'em notice

I took a young man to a sex party in London once (he was 20 years my junior... but I digress)

He was asked by a couple what he did for a living.. quick as a flash he said: "I work at London Zoo' the couple looked interested.... he then said "It's a very specialised role. I stand the penguins up after they have fallen over looking at the planes flying in and out of Heathrow, becuase they can't get back up."

The couple oohed and ahhed at such an unusual role and wandered off believing him!!

My job titles have initially reflected the job in hand, however I often found that my roles progressed far beyond the job titles. The roles I've held and companies I've worked for is a good thing for Cv purposes.

My job title is long and I don't think people outside the industry I'm in would really know exactly what the role is. In a way it does reflect what I do. I can't stand introducing myself because with my difficult surname as well as five word job title, its a pain to say.

A lout of people who become redundant or lose their job, have mentioned that they have lost part of thier identity. As some people use a job title as part of describing someone, as in that is Dave, he is a mechanic.
