only got to see the first episode last night

Did anyone see it on More4?

The US version is just as good as the UK one, once you get away from whose playing who.

If you caught let me know what you thought and whether you will be watching it again.

I know i will.

Didn't bother with it, just looked so wrong without the Chatsworth Bucaneers

Our American cousins don't get irony and sarcasm, so thought it would be another train wreck like the Office and Queer as Folk, something lost in translation.

I was anticipating a total cock-up but actually it wasn't bad - if I hadn't been so familiar with the UK version I'd probably have rated it higher.

The actors are for the most part very good, especially the youngsters (though their 'Ian' is a bit too 'conventionally gay' compared to the excellent acting by the UK chap whose name I forget). The US Fiona is gorgeous, as was the UK one!

But for me the main problem was William H Macy as Frank Gallagher. He's a great actor in movies, but he just doesn't seem 'ground down' enough to be Frank. His alcoholism and general uselessness is kind of 'wacky and charming' whereas the UK version had him as a scarily real, unlikeable character - until the later self-parody series, obviously..

I'd watch it again, but if I missed it I wouldn't cry myself to sleep..
