"I know for a fact I consume too much sugar in my diet. But how do you cut sugar out of your diet without craving it? Answers on a postcard The best way to get over an addiction is to substitute it with a other. For example, did you know crack cocaine is sugar free"

"You can't - you have to go cold turkey at some point. Lots of free low carb info at dietdoctor.com" Spot on and once you stop, it doesn't take long for the cravings to go and you'll never want to feel the way you did when you were eating it. It does mean dropping g carbs though as they are metabolised as sugar and cause the same cravings.

"You might crave it, just eat less of it. It's only sugar not actually addictive... " Sadly, it is.

"Isn't it pretty hard to cut sugar out completely,I could be making excuses though. Suppose it's a case of looking at the ingredients more carefully." I've been doing it for ten years. I don't eat anything that has a label so it's simple.

Actually it sounds really hard to not buy anything that has a label, especially having kid's and their treat's.

"Although I advocate cold turkey method I think its important to make it part of a concerted effort to change any eating habit that involves consuming processed and pre-prepared foods ..... Eat fresh and make meal from scratch rather than opening a packet or relying on tinned foods.... " Does that include tinned tomatoes!

I use a concentrated tomato paste, much lower in sugars and far tastier.

"Scientific studies have shown that sugar is not addictive, anyone who says otherwise is lying. What the brain enjoys is the reaction to sugar and the chemicals released in the body, but that is not addictive, just enjoyable. If you can't go without sugar then your issue is not addiction, it is you. Simply put, and bluntly so I know I might upset some people but the next time you go for something sugary, ask yourself do you need it? What will this do to my body that a healthy snack wouldn't? If that doesn't work and you want to lower you sugar intake to change your body appearance then you should have a stern word with yourself, if you cant control eating something purely because you enjoy it and try to convince yourself it is an addiction then you will fail miserably. We all enjoy a sweet treat, but don't claim it's addictive, its only enjoyment. " I'd like to see those studies, could you pm them to me please?

" that's how i stopped eating all crap by telling myself it would do nothing for my body and i should eat something proper. i do still eat some shit but it's rare now and i never call it a treat coz it's not a treat for my body no matter how mice it tastes.

"Isn't it pretty hard to cut sugar out completely,I could be making excuses though. Suppose it's a case of looking at the ingredients more carefully." Depends what you eat. If you make the majority of your meals from scratch then it's very easy! If you buy ready meals or food that's ready to eat then you'll find it almost impossible as it's put it pretty much everything. It also will probably be hidden and not called 'sugar' but either dextrose or maltodextrin. Which are both essentially the same thing.
