There actually was a fire officer in Bolton called Keith Laird. Kay got sued and had to make a donation to the Firemen's Charity (and, presumably, Battersea Dogs Home)

Black Books. There's an episode where Manny is locked in the shop and turns all Ray Mears.

His confession to Bernard following the ordeal is 'I ate your bees'. I have no idea why but that bit makes me howl Nd cry with laughter. Never gets old.
