Being a huge boxing fan over the years. Thought a thread on great fights might be good. So what are in your opinion, the greatest fights you have seen, live or on the TV and why are they great to you?.

Have to agree on the mayhem, was an absolutely awesome first round, two absolute warriors going for it like they did

McGuigan v Pedroza was awesome, Pedroza had been champ for around 7 years I think. my mate was Barry's chief sparring partner for preperation for the fight and was telling us guys how awesome he was in training

Thomas Hearns v Dennis Andries. The reason this would be on my list is purely for the unbelievable spirit that Andries showed the world that night, I think when you look at the footage, Hearns was in awe of Andries at how he kept getting back up, 99.9% of guys would never have got up from one of those knock downs, let alone 7

Eubank and Benn had some great fights. Always like that Chavez fella from Mexico, never a boring fight with him involved.

Never like watching heayweight bouts, find them cumbersome and slow with little action, just loads of grabbing and holding on with the exception of Iron Mike that is.

Marvin Hagler v Thomas "The Beast" Magabi

Magabi swept threw the middleweight ranks just like a Rocky film and told the world what he was going to do to Hagler. Hagler stopped him late on, in an awesome contest.

I used to have a dvd of Jack Dempsey v Luis Firpo, "The Bull Of The Pampas"

It's big Jack at his awesome best, the man who Tyson modeled himself on, and in my view, the best white fighter ever

Cassius Clay v Cleveland Williams ... this is the fight that had everyone starry eyed at the great mans handspeed and power, and was one of the first times the famous "shuffle" appeared on camera.

Clay did the shuffle and then hit Williams half a dozen lefts and right handers in about a second and a half, flooring him and knocking him out

seen so many great fights, its difficult to choose a favourite, but those mentioned already bring back memories of fantastic fighters...

the 80's saw some mega fights in uk and around the world, but must mention sugar ray v marvellous marvin...

a fight that still divides camps as to who won (even tho sugar ray got the decision)

one fight too many, probably. Fought at Light Heavy too for a time. Great entertainer though, and at his best could have made it if he had the break at the right time.

Remember Tony Sibson too?

Errol went in too confident and thought he would be too quick for Kaylor. He couldn't dodge Kalyor's bombs though, and couldn't make his own speed advantage count.

God some fights on here guys............

I'm 50 now and been around the fight scene as a fighter and then a coach since I was 15....

Let me think................

Hagler- Hearns

Hearns-Shuler

Mancini-Frias

Leonard-Hearns

McGuigan-Pedroza

Watt-Pitalua

Clay/Ali-Williams

Best fight I think I ever seen was The Thrilla in Manilla......These guys gave it all for 14 rounds.......

Frazier's corner threw in the towel to save him from being killed.....in the end Ali was in no better shape

Could talk Boxing all day.......

What are your predictions for Saturday

This could be a belter....if David Haye is in the right condition for this one I can see him win possiblt a late KO.

If he isn't then Wlad could quite easily take him out early

The Klitschko brothers are something else....

Haye fights Wlad this weekend but its the older brother Vitali that I think is the better of the two........

Vitali is getting old now and is prime for The Hayemaker, I think Wlad may give him a slight problem

Just hope David is in top of his game..........

To be honest with you I think we are gonna see at least 3 get to know each other rounds, then I think you gonna see the absolute best of Haye, Thinks he really wants to stamp his mark and I believe he can

Like I said if David has done the work and is on top of his game...

He will walk away tonight with all of the belts on offer tonight....

Then its bring on Vitali

In fact

Let Wlad fight the first 3 rounds

Then Vitali can fight the rest....

The Hayemaker walks away undisputed Champion

Retires

And the Heavyweight Division is a fuckin mess

AGAIN

david hay says he will retire before 31 if he retains his tittle

if he dose not retain it he will fight on

Not retain it

Haye is more than capable of defeating both Klitscho brothers....

When he does he WILL retire....

2nd Eubank-Benn fight was a bar room brawl..

Thr trilogy between them and Michael Watson was similar to the Hearns/Hagler/Leonard without the tragedy......

Benn-McClellan,,,now there was a war

A lot of fights were like that

Benn-McClellan...Look at McClellan now.

So many young guys have since died after ring wars.......

As for Hagler-Hearns..........

Try Barkely-Hearns....

Tommy lnocked 7 shades of shit out of Iran for 3 rounds and then suddenly Iran lands one biggy and its lights out Tommy

Hearns is also a shadow of himself, early 50's brain damaged, and still trying to get a licence to keep on fighting as he is broke......

ali v frazier

ali v foreman

leonard v duran

leonard v hagler

i can remember, hagler had leonard in a corner.

leonard started throwing punches.10 seconds later,he had hagler in the opposite corner.

remembering hagler was a fantastic boxer, and leonard was fighting above his weight.

this was a tremendous victory for leonard.

maybe it's rose tinted glasses, but the boxing seemed so much better,in times gone bye.

Lloyd Honeyghan was a waste of talent.....The night he tore Don Curry a new arsehole he was magnificent....Did nothing else

Hagler-Leonard was an awesome fight that divides many a fight fan.....

Hagler was so digusted with the judging that he quit the fight game altogether....

I must confess I've watched this fight so many times...and tried to be neutral each time and keep a score card......

EVERYTIME I watch the fight I have Leonard win...

Marvin just didn't do enough......

He did the exact same against Duran....Roberto was ahead on all cards with 2 rounds to go when the Petronelli brothers slapped Marvin in the corner and told him he was losing his crown...Marvin boxed out of his skin in rounds 14+15 to keep his title by the skin of his teeth.

He goes out against Leonard and again he fights a lazy fight...Leonard builds up a lead that Hagler cannot pull back.

From the mid to closing round Leonard fights in stops and starts but shows moments of sheer brilliance...Hagler has no answer except t ocut the ring down and keep coming forward into Leonards short sharp blows...

Ray taunts him like he did in the No Mas fight with Duran...and Hagler has no response.....

It was a Descision result that Hagler threw away with his inability to match Ray..Hagler of 4 or 5 years previous would not have allowed that to happen..........

Leonard-Duran met each other 3 times but in truth opnly one was an evenly contested bout......

Fight 1.....Leonard had defeated Benitez and become the Welterweight Champion..Duran had been Lightweight Champ from 1972-79 making 12 defences winning all but 1 inside the distance..

Duran stepped up not one but 2 weight divisions to fight Leonard......

Angelo Dundee and Ray Leonard did not do their homework either that or they believed in their own hype......

Duran manhandled and beat Leonard convincingly........

Fight 2 and 3 were non-fights......

Believe what you like about the No Mas fight I know what I know having met and spoken to the great man himself......

Fight 3 Both men were too old to be inside a boxing ring...

Surprisingly enough Duran would fight 25 more times winning 17, 9 of which were inside the distance........

little house on the praire

Was a huge boxing fan, mainly heavyweight. Way before the big fights where on the television at all times of day and night. We lived in a smallish town and they used to put a bus on for the men to go to Leicester and watch the big fights on the big screen that where the middle of the night over here. My dad would get in about 6am and wake me up to tell me all about the fight.

Im not going to pick one fight in particular although i can go back as far as rumble in the jungle. Not my personal favourite boxer but the boxer with true killer instinct has to be mike tyson

Eubank vs Benn I, Eubank vs Watson II and Benn vs McClellan are the fights that will always be ingrained in my memory. All three were real wars, two of which sadly tragic.
