I just got notification from audi my mot runs out on Monday! I can't book an appointment in with them for 2 weeks but can only Tuesday at kwickfit, however Tuesday morning my mother has a neurological app so I need to drive her there.

Am I allowed bearing in mind the app is booked or not?. Or is driving going to get me in trouble?.

Try ringing around tomorrow if you're concerned, I'm sure there will be someone available. If not, don't worry unduly, as you have a test booked, if the police did stop you they won't worry about you being 24 hours without. There are far worse motor-related offenders out there

Only allowed driving if to the MOT centre. But why not use a local centre, probably half the price of a dealer!!

After your mot expires.....the only journey you can mate is from home to the mot garage when it is booked in....technically your uninsured for any other journeys

Be more organised. I think you're only allowed to drive it to an mot if your mot is expired. I think.

Flagrante

If your MOT has run out I think you can only drive the car to the MOT test legally...that's about it.

If you're driving to the test centre you can legally drive there.

The legalities of detouring to the hospital first would probably be questionable.

And don't forget no MOT means insurance is also affected!

But on the other hand I think we have all done it at some point

Just get on the phone to as many local test centres as you can find and do your best 'silly me forgot to book and I REALLY need the car on Monday'. You may get lucky and get a cancellation or similar.

Failing that, stump up the taxi fare for mum.

"Be more organised. I think you're only allowed to drive it to an mot if your mot is expired. I think. "

ur advice would be better suited to audi sales guy as when I bought the car last summer part of my package was this year's mot and final service under warranty.

Giving me 3 days notice I think is pretty shit to be honest.

They said today the sales guy put the wrong date in the system.

He seems to have put the date I bought the car which is a year in two weeks time rather than 2 weeks ago giving me 2 weeks notice for mot and service.

It's a bit late now but when I get a car in check the details with total car checker....then register for mot alerts the send one 28..14 and 7 days before the mot expires

Ignore this advice! No you cannot drive just because you have it booked.

I wouldn't as it gives the insurance company a technical out if anything happens - no MOT was it roadworthy?

Yes you're unlikely to get caught as such but not worth it with ANPR.

I used to be a tester and would practice on my own car with a training test certificate ( ie it's not valid as an MOT proper) so it had about 10 actual MOT's in a month then forgot the real one had expired. Oops

Drive to audi place tell them its not good enough, ask to see a manager, customer service dreadful, their mess up! they can cancel some one else and fit you in...

Technically they miss sold you the package if they fail to get your car mot done in time...

No one wants potential customers in a showroom seeing a previous customer complain of bad after sales service...

xx

I think you will find the responsibility is yours, not the Audi garage. but if you kick up enough fuss they may give you a courtesy car, or as someone said get a taxi on Tuesday.

I have to confess I drove for 2 months without an MOT once, changed car remembered wrong date... didn't get caught but if I had I would have been driving without insurance etc. which is quite a serious offence.

Hey! I think you misunderstood what I was saying here. I did say 'try ringing around tomorrow' in the hope she could find someone able to fit her in today (Saturday). IF she couldn't get sorted, as her MOT expires on Monday, and she needs to use her car on Tuesday morning, AND she was unlucky enough to be caught out on Tuesday morning, the worst a police officer would do would be to advise her to be better organised in future, bearing in mind you are able to present your vehicle for test a whole calendar month before your ticket expires! The fact she has a test arranged for Tuesday would show her in good stead.

As an aside; I have just had my Caterham go through it's MOT today, after being without a ticket since September

No insurance is considered one of the worst motor-related crimes.

Unfortunately no insurance will result in a prosecution, and possibly seizure, the officer would have NO wriggle-room in this matter.x
