i have no problem with any of that clem my problem is when human behaviour and needs for such things reach the point where as a species we are willing to exterminate another species for those beliefs .

breed to supply i have no problem with if done right but this was a case of pure greed committed by criminals for financial gain ,

if china wants rhino horns where are all the breeding reserves in china to supply there needs .

i believe genocide on other humans or on any species we share this planet with be one of the worst traits of the human condition and should be apposed at all costs.

i don't think such believes are wrong but when some of the consequences of those beliefs lead to the subjectification and dehumanising of women or whole groups of people based on purely grounds of belief then we have a moral duty to offer those subject to that subjectification a alternative option .

as for hunting a fellow species we share this planet with for simple reasons as belief that is wrong we should be trying to find a way to sustain just species because its in the best interests of supplying those with said interests with that which they need from said animals concerned that's where sustainable ethical farming and animal management comes in .

The irony is that humans have virtually wiped out that species. It was brought into captivity for protection of it and hopefully its' species.

It was slaughtered while there for its horn.

Humanity has taken, killed and destroyed over its entire existence, as pointed out it is ironically am incredibly human act.

That's not such a bad idea, devalue the rhino horn by oversupply in the market.

Many things about this are a concern, not the least of which is someone in France has a gun capable of killing a rhino, and after firing it had time to cut off the horn and make an escape...

for those on this thread who say it's wrong to kill an animal for money, think that over while putting on your leather shoes and wandering off to buy your burger and chips... If you happen to be vegan, them consider what happens to stop rats mice & rabbits eating your pulses and carrots...

It's sad and worrying that it happened, but it's one of the many sick and sad things humans do every day.

It's sort of on thread .... but if anyone expressing the true (and very real) horror of the situation buys 2.99 chickens at Tesco, or looks for the cheapest non organic milk, or eats cheap farmed fish, or value sausages, or feeds their dogs tinned meat, or buys cheap eggs or turns a blind eye to inhumane farming practices on our doorstep which is all about making money from the suffering of animals.... you really cannot justify your high horse.

What happened to the rhino was sick. What happens every day ,fuelled by us, the bargain driven consumer, is equally sick.

Both are sick, agreed.

I diverge on the 'equally sick'. The intensive farming is bad, but has some crap level of justification. The rhino is nearly extinct due to humans and has been killed for nothing.
