Kent

So in the summer last year I had some strange skin blemishes that needed looking at so I was sent to the dermatology dept at the hospital.

There were 3 areas I was concerned with. One on top of bum cheek, one on my left boob and one on my tummy. The lady was very concerned about the bum one and took me straight into theatre there and then to remove it. The other 2 she said looked OK but she would make me an appointment to have them removed at a later date for peace of mind.

The results from the surgery were all clear. Fast forward to November and I was back for the other 2, the one from my tummy was removed but the surgeon said that due to bad scarring he would just biopsy the boob one for now.

January I got the results back. Tummy one all clear, boob one needed full excision of the blemish but 'appeared to be nothing to be duly concerned over'

Back I went again. Had the full thing removed plus a margin around the outside. Was told I would get a letter (assumed with the results on) but instead I've been called back.

So I'm again tomorrow at 10. Made the mistake of Googling the name of person I've got to see and she's a skin cancer specialist and does a lot of work with macmillan. She's a 'clinical nurse specialist'

So now I'm terrified.....

Sorry for the long post.

Deep breath lovely. Whatever the reason for the call back, it's good to know that they are on ball. Try to distract yourself today, easier said than done and step away from Google!!

Most of the time they want to tell the results - good or bad - to you in person. Possibly also how to avoid getting them. Just take it in your stride - if it's bad, focus on is it curable or not - then decide what you intend to do.

There are a myriad of reasons to get referee to a specialist, most of them are minor.

No point saying don't worry, obviously you will anyway, but try not to let it dominate your day. She is probably the one to tell you it's OK. x

OP, I would try to avoid worrying. This woman is a specialist and the fact you're under her care if anything means that if anything was wrong you'd know straight away. Fingers crossed and hope you get everything sorted

I would say whatever the result they are on the ball and dealing with it quickly. Some specialists just like to see you to tell you the results and maybe observe you for a while after.

After my own brush with suspected breast cancer last year the thoughts that go through your head aren't good and google is not your friend. Keep positive and fingers crossed for you x

Nothing any of us say is gonna stop you worrying. it's just a days wait though..

Imagine waiting a week or a month for results

Do NOT google anything ever.

It's the worst thing you can do.

By rights I should be dead at least 5 times over if Google is to be believed.

Google is an absolute bastard.

Just because that person operates in a particular area just means they want that person to take a look.

It can only be eliminated by a qualified person, this could be nothing more than a process of elimination.

Don't freak yourself out, your anxiety will go through the fucking roof, I don't get an anxiety, except for once when I googled something.

Don't ever do it.

I had very similar happen to me, got left an answerphone message, couldn't catch the number properly, Googled the name and saw her job title and panicked. Turns out it was melanoma but they'd already got it all out when doing the biopsy. However they like to get it plus a certain margin to be safe which they hadn't so I had to go and get more removed. It was all fine after that, bar a scar. Easier said than done but try not to worry about it. Even if it is suspect it may be something easily treatable.

So....it's what they call a melanoma in situ. Meaning that there are bad cells but only on the epidermis and no sign of it spreading at all.

They prefer to get up to 5mm clear margins around but only got 2 so they gave me the option of having the scar reopened and the margins widened which I'll be having done in a few weeks for peace of mind.

Oh I'm so glad it's not completely bad news. The scar will soon fade. I think knowing your safe and healthy is a good swap for a small scar. And you can enjoy your holiday now x

Scars are sexy, you just need to find the story to go with it, I put forward the errant cocktail shaker as the basis of your first explanation, it doesn't need to be great, they will already be looking at your tits when they ask for the story

Glad it wasn't too scary and will be easily sorted. xx
