Bloody garage taking the piss

So, booked my car in last weekend for today to have a part replaced which has been an ongoing problem since before Christmas.

Will take less than an hour to swap he said, dropped car off just as they opened and made him aware that I had to get to work so if he could do it sooner rather than later, that would be very much appreciated.

Still sat on the couch waiting for the phone call to tell me it's ready

Phone them back? Garages tend to be rammed and they forget about phone calls at times

Jesus. Worth a complaint and asking for money off. Bad reviews on the Internet are worth it

The head gasket went before Christmas, but the internal fan heater stopped working just before that, getting hold of the part has been a nightmare apparently which is why it's taken so long, the work today has already been payed for when we collected the car back after the head gasket was sorted, was hoping to be in work by 11, by the way it's looking in not gunna get there till close to 1pm now.

Know that feeling.

Car's heater blower stopped working in October, took it, asked them to have a look at it, go back hours later, £150 down as they didn't look, just worked on it.

Stopped working again the other day, took it back, "Its something completely different" (should have noticed that if they'd have had a proper look first time, tried charging me £100 to fix, so told em where to go.

A garage you trust is more valuable than an fb, a doldo, or a slave in a gimp suit.

Hang on ! Hang on ! Hang on !

Threatening bad reviews and asking for money off !

I'd tell someone where to take their business if they tried that.

The garage said it'd take about an hour to fix.....

They didn't give a start time and a finish time I bet.

Assumption leads to disappointment...... usually.

Did you tell him what time you needed the car for?

I made it quite clear that I needed to get to work so he said we will look at it first thing, to me that's first job on, as I'd already prebooked the car in, it was already at the top of the queue, why they left it to bloody 11.30 I don't know.

Know the feeling regarding issues with car....

Mine chucked it's clutch last week (dual mass flywheel wobble) it's drivable, but only for short journeys.

Then number 2 injector started leaking (return pipe clip) ... was removed and a temp repair... 4 miles later it's dumped £20 of diesel all over engine.... again!

Had to cancel a night out we have both been looking forward to... and car is still not repaired!

My fault! Read it as though they'd had the car a week!

Yeah all you can do is ask for a finish time, Saturdays are probably busy for them.

I'd expect it done early too ...... but I guess he never tied himself down with 'first thing' ...... before 12 is first thing to some.

Update: old part replaced with new part and now the internal fan doesn't work at all, so now taking it back to the garage this morning so they can take it to an auto spark to find out what's happening or not as the case may be. They think there may be a broken wire, but as the fan was working, albeit at top speed, with the old part and now its not working at all with the new part, I'm suspecting it's more than just a broken wire.

The Garden of Eden in Beautiful North Wales

I've been in the motor trade most of my life and I've worked for good companies and bad. Good garages tend to bend over backwards to get the work, bad ones just think of the £ notes. Personally, I would rather supply and fit something like a bulb FOC because for 1, you'll more than likely get a tip that will cover the cost anyway and secondly that customer will come back again and again because they had a good deal... and most bulbs only take a few minutes to fit.

Then you may have a customer that wants his/her centrifugal foofoo valve replacing at say £250 plus labour but if I know that isn't the problem and it can be rectified by something half the price and an hours labour, I'll be up front and tell them so....

I have actually had argument's with customers that insist on changing the foofoo valve even after I've said it won't cure the problem. Fitted it, charged the correct price and they come back in the next day ranting about being ripped off, even though I've pointed out that I told them in the first place it wouldn't cure the problem!

It's a hard trade and even harder trying to find an honest garage/technician that you can trust....

Me? I'm off up the north-west to open a small garage and make some money with honesty and reliability.

You'll spot me a mile off, I'll be the tech in pink overalls and steel toecap stilettos! lol

It stopped working on my wife's car a couple of weeks ago. So i bought another rheostat and fitted it. It was a real pain and took all day under the car. But it cost me £20. Not a new car. Man up.

Was a bit more involved than that, all the elements from the dashboard control to the actual fan have been replaced and it still isn't working, worse thing was after its last visit to the autospark to find the fault, when I picked it up the windows wouldn't open, so what ever they were tinkering around with they've disconnected that control too
