sooooo many to choose from

one that always makes me laugh is when Del Boy falls through the bar trying to be all cool

one that makes me sad is when Del Boy takes a beating to get some money for Rodders. Rodders is shouting at del through the bathroom door and all you see is Del taking it while tending to his cuts and bruises - proper East End!!!!!

When I saw the title of this thread, the first thing that popped into my mind was the dolls popping up from behind the sofa. I've seen it a million times too and always crack up. When they're walking the dolls out and the short sighted black man says "good evening ladies" that has me rolling too.

That is closely followed by the episode where Rachel is teamed up with a singer who can't sing his "r's!"

Classics!

While David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst are the obvious main characters I think Roger Lloyd-Pack delivered some of Fools most memorable lines. My favourite is when he's been presented with an award for saving the council money and he's talking about his broom in Sid's cafe:

Trigger: And that's what I've done. Maintained it for 20 years. This old broom's had 17 new heads and 14 new handles in its time.

Sid: How the hell can it be the same bloody broom then?

Trigger: Theres the picture. What more proof do you need?

Brilliant stuff!

I love the funny moments but the tender moments to, Del holding his son to the window to show his mum has me in tears, the beating Del took for Rodney and when Rodney gets married. it gives a strong message of love between families all wrapped up in brilliant humour, it just illustrates that you don't need the Frankie Boyles of this world.

I also like the other characters, Dels mates and Rodneys, Denzil, Boycey and Micky Pierce

your right there, i will never forget the one where rodney got married and the reception is at the nags head, and del was there at the end alone with just the simply red track playing was so powerful, evidently they shot it infront of a live audience and half of them were in tears .All the really great comedies seem to be able to mix those emothions and wrap it up into great comedy, another one was the end of the final black adder episode ,slowing the final attack down as they went over the top ,and cross fading to the poppies in the fields of flanders to a beating slow drum ,was powerful and genious in my opinion.

Difficult to pick one particular episode, there are so many to choose from,

One I have always liked though was a episode in the first series when Del and Rodney are in a disco and get chatting to a couple of single ladies,

Del makes out to the girls, that Rodney is a top tennis player, this leads one of the girls to ask Rodney what does he prefer, Grass or Astroturf,

Rodney says, I dunno I have never smoked astroturf!

Another good one was when they won a competition, a free holiday to Spain, Del forged Rodneys passport, which backfired when Rodneys name came up on the winning Lottery ticket.

Same episode, Rodney is getting close to giving cassandra one, they finally get rid of Del from the hotel room, as Del leaves the room and is about to shut the door he shouts to Rodney, there in the cuboard. (The Johnnies!)

All of the ones with Grandad, some with uncle Albert...but IMO it went down hill fast when they brought in the very bland characters Rachel and Cassandra...all principal characters need feeders, Alf Garnet (his wife and son in law) Fletcher (the other cons) etc etc...this wasnt the case in later episodes of OFAH

They would have been better of linking them up with a couple of brassy types like his old flame June

That wouldn't have worked because the whole philosophy behind The Trotters were their aspirations to move up a class. Raquel & Cassandra epitomised everything Del & Rodney wasn't and the end result was that Cassandra DID elevate Rodney but Raquel was pulled down to Del's level by Del's immitable and unstoppable force of nature. I think the girls were a perfect piece of casting and a brilliant piece of writing.

Yeah the tender moments...the one where Del orchestrates the 'trapped in a lift' scenario to get Rodney to talk about the miscarriage is fantastic acting and writing. Only those two actors could have pulled that off...great stuff

Very difficult to pick a favourite episode as they're all brilliant. I tend to think of specific scenes and Delboy falling through the bar had me in fits when it first aired. It still makes me chuckle now but the impact of seeing it first time round will always remain up there as an all-time comedy classic moment.

"

Very interesting point.

To a degree of course the writing has something to do with it.

BUT

There is no way on Gods earth that it would have been half as good if the chemistry between the pair was not there.

I strongly believe that any actors without the chemistry could never have acted their way through it however good an actor they were.
