Followed closely by the jewellery scan, you know the guy selling those gold chains who pretends to be have a heart attack etc .." The blow up doll one and the yuppie one when he fell thru the gap at the wine bar and triggers reaction

When I saw the title of this thread, the first thing that popped into my mind was the dolls popping up from behind the sofa. I've seen it a million times too and always crack up. When they're walking the dolls out and the short sighted black man says "good evening ladies" that has me rolling too. That is closely followed by the episode where Rachel is teamed up with a singer who can't sing his "r's!" Classics!

"I love the funny moments but the tender moments to, Del holding his son to the window to show his mum has me in tears, the beating Del took for Rodney and when Rodney gets married. it gives a strong message of love between families all wrapped up in brilliant humour, it just illustrates that you don't need the Frankie Boyles of this world. I also like the other characters, Dels mates and Rodneys, Denzil, Boycey and Micky Pierce " your right there, i will never forget the one where rodney got married and the reception is at the nags head, and del was there at the end alone with just the simply red track playing was so powerful, evidently they shot it infront of a live audience and half of them were in tears .All the really great comedies seem to be able to mix those emothions and wrap it up into great comedy, another one was the end of the final black adder episode ,slowing the final attack down as they went over the top ,and cross fading to the poppies in the fields of flanders to a beating slow drum ,was powerful and genious in my opinion.

"All of the ones with Grandad, some with uncle Albert...but IMO it went down hill fast when they brought in the very bland characters Rachel and Cassandra...all principal characters need feeders, Alf Garnet (his wife and son in law) Fletcher (the other cons) etc etc...this wasnt the case in later episodes of OFAH They would have been better of linking them up with a couple of brassy types like his old flame June" That wouldn't have worked because the whole philosophy behind The Trotters were their aspirations to move up a class. Raquel & Cassandra epitomised everything Del & Rodney wasn't and the end result was that Cassandra DID elevate Rodney but Raquel was pulled down to Del's level by Del's immitable and unstoppable force of nature. I think the girls were a perfect piece of casting and a brilliant piece of writing.

"All wonderful, Jolly boys outing classic. Or when little Damien was born and the theme tune would go through rodney hysterical or when Rodney was ringing up about his own job brilliant plonker." That one right there... "The only job i fancy in the paper...and it's already bloody mine!" Still cracks me up that episode. Absolute gold. I love thw whole series...all of them. if ever you feel down chuck a couple of episodes on and it changes your mood.

Only those two actors could have pulled that off...great stuff

"I could never understand what was funny about a show who's main character was a dole-scrounging, tax-avoiding thief." Dole scrounging? Fortunately millions of people saw the programme as a comedy and not a documentary on South London society...

"The one with the dolls is amazing. But there are so many. The chandelier one, the BatMan and Robin one, the one at the auction with the lesser watch. All amazing, but its all to do with the partnership with the 2 actors. You could never remake that." nothing to do with John Sullivan's writing then?

" nothing to do with John Sullivan's writing then? " Very interesting point. To a degree of course the writing has something to do with it. BUT There is no way on Gods earth that it would have been half as good if the chemistry between the pair was not there. I strongly believe that any actors without the chemistry could never have acted their way through it however good an actor they were.
