I don't know (and I don't believe anyone else does either), and I don't really care.

Why worry or concern yourself with that. Concentrate on being yourself now. It'll become clear at some point I'm sure!

i read we have the potential to live longer than we do, because our genes are the only thing stopping us from living forever.

some species die as soon as they breed, but geneticists can turn that off. and we only die because it promotes the survival of the next generation.

how we use resources ensures our survival and that of further generations. if we used them differently we might evolve into something that lives longer...forever.

and i heard neil degrasse tyson say that his death is what motivates his to do things but i don't agree that death pushes us to anything, as a nihilist i see death as making life meaningless in the first place.

In the grand scheme of the Universe, yep, totally meaningless. Not even a blink in the eye of time.

However, because of that I think there's even more reason to get on and enjoy it.

actually, and maybe i contradict myself here but i do that a lot and often believe contradictory things can occur together, but in the grand scheme of things we could be so much so more than we are. but this is based on what i think is imprtant and meaningful, and this might not apply to anyone/everyone else.

i have no doubt many people contribute in many ways that are not meaningless, as well as in ways that are very meaningful. but overall, we are not very important, we have no defined purpose, we don't fully understand anything despite knowing so much and gaining knowledge all the time. but, one day we won't exist, and even if we did contribute to something that created a better humanity there are no guarantees it would continue forever, people change, everything changes, and if we never existed the world would not notice...and even if they did, should they really care?

nobody is that special, overall, that they contributed anything of substance to humanity, this planet, or indeed the universe.

given the right circumstances (which not everyone is) anyone can be anything.

I was working with a fella today and this subject came up.

Do you think you get another shot after this life mate, if its anything like this one I hope not!.

It kinda made me think about what im doin with my life and wether its really what I wanna do or just doin it coz thats what everyone else is doin
