Sex education

On the news today should sex education be taught to 4 year olds to me it seems very young to be learning about the birds and bees x

sex education is more than discussing sex. it could anatomy or gender, things like this. still seems a bit young for things like that though.

if they're teaching them to respect themselves sexually and their body belongs to them then that's good.

My son was taught it in his last year of primary school, and he and his classmates found it highly embarrassing .. even though it was taught separately to the boys and girls...

In those circumstances I'm not sure the term sex education would be an appropriate subject title...

I also think age 4 is a too early to be burdening young minds with information relating to life-choices many adults fail to get right....

I had something similar in my last year of primary school. Us girls were just told about periods and given samples of pads and tampons and a little booklet about growing up, then we had proper sex ed classes during Science lessons in Year 7.

On the surface, I feel it is young. But then I watched a programme on transgender children, who were being supported by their families. They were aged 5 & 6. I don't remember being sexualised at that age, but then I suppose I was receiving the 'right signals', to the gender I felt I was.

I agree my 3 year old would be freaked out

The news says sex education will be compulsory for all secondary school kids. At the moment it is only compulsory in council run schools, i.e not in academies, private or religious schools. Primary school kids will receive lessons on relationships.

The thing is there are reports of children as young as 7 or 8 involved in sexual assault, ok not a great deal but over the last few years I have read a few reports.

4!

In parts of Europe they teach sex ed from the age of 4 and they have lower teenage pregnancy levels than we do.

Also it may help protect more children from sexual abuse.
