Just back in from a hard day's graft and i like to enjoy a nice wee glass of wine or two with my dinner these days. Picked up a nice wee bottle of whispering hills rose (£7) and its very palatable, anymore recommendations on nice wines? (red, white or rose).

Please don't say buckfast I've grown out of that one lol

a nice Malbec for me but only the Argentinian ones, not those using South African grown grapes

I would also recommend a red wine called Quirky Bird ..

the quirky bird you can get from Tesco, its about £5.50 a bottle

if you want a good Malbec (which is red) you can expect to pay up to a tenner

CDP, Val and BDM are all red wines. The taste varies depending on the bottle you buy! Price wise, decent bottle of CDP between £15-25, Val about £10 and BDM is quite a bit more! You can get all three in a big supermarket quite easily.

I used to be like that would only drink beer and cognac.

Then through friends started drinking wine mainly white and rose, I tried it and loved it opened me up more, makes me more relaxed and chatty but true if you over indulge it gives you a kint of a hangover.

have you tried drinking wine with a lower alcoholic percentage?

if you stick to 12.5% rather than 13 or 14%, that greatly reduces the risk of a headache

Morrison's 6:50 bottle but sometimes on special BLACK CUVEE XV SHIRAZ 2015 (black label)

There seems to be a new one which has

Petit Verdot written on it now .

hope it tastes as good because he bought 6 bottles.

ahh yes this one is nice 5.00 a bottle so better value. (silver label)

Aldi Chateau Neuf du Pape is excellent and less than £10. They regularly get their wine recommended, which is a pain when you want to buy some and its all sold out.

Or a Piqupoul de pinet from the Rhone is a very nice white, has a complex flavour similar to Alsace wines.

Malbec is my new favourite at the moment, but Tesco do a lovely Cabernet Sauvignon which is often on offer for around £6.50.

After being told I was border line anaemic last week I will be upping my red wine intake as recommended by the nurse

Yes.

Wine doesnt have to be in a bottle to be good?

There was some snobbery about screw top wine bottles when they first came outvas it was viewed that the wine wasnt "proper wine" because the bottle didnt have a cork.

But now screw top wine is accepted and actually thought as a better way to preserve the quality and taste of a wine than better than a cork .

Lots of false snobbery surrounds some wine drinkers .

When we were in Tenerife the local supermarket had litre cartons of wine for €0.69 I wasn't brave enough to try it as I was convinced it would leave me with a horrendous hangover. Anyone tried one of these wines?

Never really thought of that - I just went "wine gives me headaches, best I avoid.

I get the headaches while drinking - I wouldn't mind if it was a hangover!
