I don't think there's a one size fits all. We often respond to "Hi how are you?" but other people don't. We don't mind an obviously cut and pasted message (as long as they remember to change the names) but some people don't like them.

Probably best to go somewhere in the middle because you wont please all of the people all of the time

I look at a profile before reading a message. I wouldn't get as far as reading your message so it really doesn't matter.

I would say just introduce yourself and ask if they'd be interested in chatting. I don't know how many people go for the up front messages

This. Ive said it many times but the first message is basically pointless people will make a judgemrnt on your pics and profile.

Hi can work just as well or as poorly as a beautiful handcraftes message.

All depends kf they fancy you
