Positive thought type threads are cool and there's plenty who do a wonderful job with them, but sometimes you just need a little wallow in your own woes, if only to realise how lucky you are. With that in mind, wallow away...

It is important to give voice and legitimacy to all feelings. It's as unnatural to be happy all the time as it is to be miserable x

I agree. Relentless positivity can be patronising and dismissive of people's very real problems. Sometimes we all need to have it acknowledged that at that moment in time life is rubbish.

Yes most of us go through challenging times in our lives at some stages and to varying degrees.

Its one of the things in life that shapes us as an individual.

Sometimes its difficult to see the lighg at the end of the tunnel?

But believe me there is light and things will work out the way they are meant to.

Its hard to realise that when you are in the midst of it though.

All I can say is try and keep positive as everything will wogk out in the end.

May not seem like it but it will.

That said, thank you, there's been some fabulous and sad responses so far.

I so very nearly typed something positive, but fuck that, wallow, embrace and reassess.

Well that is shit! However, these things do need to be embraced. As silly as it can seem, relatively, the reaction to that sort of injury can be akin to the traditional grieving process. If it is a worse case scenario acknowledge this and work through it accordingly.

...Up on the Downs

"There's an interesting article on Heleo called:

"Embrace Authenticity: How to Break Free from the Tyranny of Positivity"

"

I like this thought:

"One is stepping out of our emotions. It’s important to recognize that our emotions contain data. I’ve never met a mother who’s feeling guilty about her parenting who, at some level, isn’t wanting to be present and connected with her children. Our difficult emotions [point] to the things that we value.

Instead of struggling with whether we should or shouldn’t feel something, it’s important for us to say, “What is the function of this emotion? What is the value? What is this emotion trying to tell me?”

And this:

"One of the most beautiful embodiments of emotional agility comes from Viktor Frankl, who survived the Nazi death camps. The idea that’s attributed to him is this: “between stimulus and response there is a space, and in that space is our power to choose, and it’s in that choice that comes our growth and freedom.” So often, we get hooked by our emotions and thoughts. We treat them as fact, so there’s no space between the stimulus and response."

Emotions should be owned and expressed - but in an adult way, not as if a controlled child.

I might do that. Any orders?

Yes. Can it have fuck off and die printed on the other side? Depending how pragmatic i'm feeling.

Yes it can. Although I haven't checked T&Cs so if I'm banned from Vistaprint you won't be getting a mug

Can't you paint it on with tippex? I've had two massive dissapointments on here today and i'm alternating between a burning rage with the desire to rub deep heat on their bollocks and sadness."

That's a very practical solution and I like it.

I hear you. I'm in almost the same hole and trying to build a ladder with ice lolly sticks to get out again.

There and to the left a bit

We all have our ups, we all have our downs, it's how we deal with them that defines us as individuals. Me? I just keep putting one foot in front of the other dealing with each hurdle in turn and invariably things work themselves out.

Now this is a tricky one... opposite ends of the 'wallow spectrum', but perhaps both equally necessary?

That's a process that works for many. But what happens when things really go wrong? Many struggle with that.

We all do at times and in times like those when things get really extreme that's when help is needed...whether that be professionally or just a guiding hand of another...or even just taking some time out to be alone and wallow and reflect and work things through.

Very few people admit or accept that their life is "fine" all the time.

No one escapes the "FuckShit Life Reflections" at moments - and one solution doesn't fit all.

Most of the permanently positive ones, are masking elements of life, they dare not expose.

Yep, I too cop it now and again. I can hack the toughest crap (and yes I have) yet a series of little stupid elements, will cause me greater crap.

My solution, is to tough it out (however I choose to do that) & usually day later, I'm snapped out of it.

Whatever works for you, do it.

regardless of what we go thru in life it gives us experience, we learn valuable lessons from the hard times, which if taken in the right spirit makes us better and stronger people.

Teachs us to show compassion and empathy towards others when they wade thru their sorrows, oft being able to help them along the way since we once trod the same path they are now treading...

"My life should be converted into a film with the amount of ups and downs I've pulled through...."

Yeah it's like Forrest Gump.

It gave me very realistic expectations of what my life would be like...

Or it could be a horror film, where everyone I've ever pissed off in my life is stood there like zombies in my kitchen....

"Christ alive

"So it does!" said Pooh. "It goes in!"

"So it does!" said Piglet. "And it comes out!"

"Doesn't it?" said Eeyore. "It goes in and out like anything."

Carry on... I'm learning all the time and I like your insights. Nearly as much as the Pooh insights, but hey, insights are insights.

London

"Hang on.....I read Facebook, there's loads of people with perfect lives on there.....cheer up and get on facebook, everything will soon appear better.... "

That is why I hardly use FB nowadays. I got a bit tired of most of the people posting about their perfect lives which we all know it is not true as "perfect" does not exist as there is always room for improvement. Still, it was bringing me down (my own fault, I guess).

Life is full of ups and downs. We should enjoy the highs when they come and try to cope with the downs as well as we can.

It's tiredness plus I'm so fed up of this world and people.

People are annoying me.
