Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Really...

He was hated by almost all libyans..

A despotic dictator that bled the richest country in the Maghreb region.

It may not seem that things are improving, however the whole region is destabilised at this time..

It will improve, it couldn't be any worse than under Gaddafis control...

I was working in Tripoli a week before the uprising and although Gaddafi was an unhinged despot, life for Libyans was probably much better than now. It was a well educated society and unusually for an Islamic state women had full access to education and a lot of personal freedom. I saw many women in western dress going about their business untroubled by lecherous Muslim nutters. Downtown Tripoli had a lot of investment and was becoming increasingly Westernised. I saw a lot of Tripoli and got the impression of a prosperous society. Tourism was developing, especially around the ancient Roman sites which were continually being excavated and preserved. The common people were very warm and welcoming to foreigners. I felt perfectly safe and at ease wandering the streets there. Yes dissent against the regime was brutally repressed but at least Gaddafi also came down hard on the Islamic fundamentalists. Now he's gone the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I wonder why we assume countries want to be 'westernised', especially when it means having a venal, mad dictator in charge. Cf Libya, Iraq, Iran.

There might be several reasons why they want to recover their national identity, especially as it was us westerners who de-stabilised the Middle East in the first place.

Westernised usually means liberal, where equality and personal freedoms are tolerated, as opposed to medieval Islamic states where some form of Sharia law is practiced. Which one would you prefer?

We as the so called civilised ones are he'll bent on destabilizing the middle east for greed leaving it wide open to corruption & extremists, we left their people in a far worst state than they were in beforehand.

The people who murdered Gaddafi & Saddam are no better than ISIS & the other regime's but like you said least we got some oil out of it.

These countries were civilised when our ancestors were still banging rocks together. I don't know how we have the nerve to tell them how to conduct themselves.
