Contraceptive Pills-Experiences please!

Ladies (and Gents!)

I've been off Yasmin now for a few months to give my body a rest and am looking to start the mini pill (or even back on Yasmin if they sound awful).

I want to take the lowest dose possible which is Norgeston but have read there are many others.

I'm hoping to avoid one that trashes my sex drive, makes me depressed, crazy for ten days every month or one that increases my appetite.

Being off of them is brilliant and I feel much better for it so really don't want to go backwards...but being off of them has it's restrictions of course!

Can people share their experiences of them please?

cheers in advance

I used to be on yasmin for a few years put on loads of weight. Ive also tried the mini pill but just bled all the time. Im currently on Loestrin20 which are great and i get on really well with them. There are loads of different types you've just got to try them and see what works best for you x

I never got on with any as they used to cause me to have odd skin pigmentation so I ended up on the hormone coil.

Mrs is on Cerazette (buggered if I know what that means)

Hasn't had a period for years. Whether it has had other effects I can't tell.

Oooh, thanks ladies above.

I've never heard about the 20 thing, I will need to google that.

And i did read about the pigmentation thing too....

It's all these side effects that stopped me switching in the first place.

Hmmm...

Thank-you!

That is a POP pill. That may not be suitable and it made me a monster!

Liking the sound of this! If the lady has any feedback on it, would be gratefully heard too, Thanks!!

Progesteron only? Is that not a mini pill?

Yes she has a reaction if it contains oestrogen that causes spinal fluid pressure to increase. Wasn't nice and ended up in hospital having lumbar punctures

Yasmin is known for bad side effects once you stop and start it again.

Be careful.

Dianette is very easy. No side effects.

Good luck.

A lot of doctors will not recommend something like microgynon (a combo pill) after 35 as you have an increased chance of blood clots .

I'm on cerelle (progestogen only) and have been for just over a year after swapping from combo pill. No side effects and I generally don't have periods

I use Cerelle too, you take it every day with no break and unlike the majority of mini pills you have a 12hr window to take the pill whereas most others appear to be only 3 hours.

Not really had any issues, periods were irregular initially, but now very short and very light so a big plus for me.

ooh, thanks you four ladies above!

Another brand name too for me to check out.

It's so scary how everyone seems to react so differently to them...and having felt the most balanced I have done ever (since being off the pill) am so reluctant to rush in and end up feeling like crap.

I shall post and update as I find more stuff out/go on a pill...

Thanks for the feedback so far!

How long did the irregularity continue? Mine are, and always have been regular. Would hate to lose that...

No it was actually one of the better pills I took. If I ever decide to have the coil removed I'd go back to using this one.

If you have a good doctor ask to have a really good talk about the different types of pills that are available.

I did this with mine and ended up with Norgestrone.

Good luck and I hope you manage to find one that you get along with

All hormonal contraception has potential side-effects. Dianette is banned in some countries as it is believed to have a higher risk of fatal blood clots than other pills.

I started taking it because after years of being regular I began losing weight and my cycle went haywire. First 4 weeks were fine, next month I had a fortnight of off and on breakthrough bleeding and a couple of years later I have a really light period for a couple of days every few months and that's it. I have noticed that although there's a 12 hour window if I'm an hour or more late I get some breakthrough bleeding with it so I have an app that reminds me when to take it each day.

Only a couple of months and it was nothing horrendous. Now I either don't have one or it's over in a couple of days

It's not a pill, but I've been using the Evra patches for nearly 4 years now and haven't had any problems with it.

I have put on weight during the time I've been on it, but there are a lot of other issues affecting that and my eating so I can't say for sure if the patches caused it or not!

I'm on zelleta which is a cheaper (for the NHS) version of cerazette I believe. No break, so I haven't had a period since going on it, which is obviously awesome but I'm starting to feel like I want a break from it at the moment as it can't be healthy to be on it for so long!

Not meeting

I was very happy on Cileste but 18 months ago it stopped working. I had to have a low oestrogen pill due to endometriosis. Following surgery last year I'm now on Prostap injections to induce a menopause with Livial HRT. The monthly injections were fine but the last 1 was a 3 monthly & 6 weeks in stopped working & I am currently irrational with funny mood swings...

Fuck no, synthetic hormones send me insane and suicidal. I refuse to take anything any more, it's just not worth my sanity, I thought I had mental health issues for 14 years until I Tried for a baby and realised I was no longer mental when not on the pill!

Years ago I was put on the mini pill, can't remember which. I lost my sex drive and found it really hard to orgasm. So in a way it worked great, because I didn't actually want sex. After 3 months I stopped using it. Everyone is different though.

Louth

S was on Cilest for years and loved it until the docs took her off of it because slightly high BP. To cut a long story short, she tried most mini pills but bled all of the time and tons of spots. Stopped that and finally a year ago she had the coil fitted. Same thing as it's more or less a mini pill but obviously an insertion...periods did seem to die down a bit but still could easily bleed for 2 weeks at a time. I hated seeing her like this as it was really pissing her off.

Finally 2 months ago the nurse gave her Gedarel which you take like the normal combined pill.

So far so good, she hasn't bled for 3 weeks and is now on the week break. So fingers crossed either the pill or the coil has kicked in. The nurse did say that to her that it might finally react and she won't have any more periods.

Sorry, I didn't cut the long story short did I lol
