I have no experience with opening up a monogamous relationships but I can tell you even when already swinging, when introducing new things there is always some negotiating or convincing to be done.

Mark was open to it, we were both initially a little apprehensive because we started so early in our relationship but it just worked for us. He didn't really have to be persuaded, we were both just open to trying new things.
