Female Dr Who?

According to recent news sources, Tilda Swinton is being considered for the role of the next Dr Who. What do Whovians think of this? A good idea? PC gone mad? The end of the Time Lord as we know him? Does anyone care?!

I miss John Pertwee

It really makes me laugh with all of the speculation about who could be cast as the new Doctor and who might be in the running, who would make a good Doctor etc.

From what I understand, the new Doctor has already been cast - but in traditional fashion will be kept under wraps for some time - until it is deemed appropriate to announce.

They may even consider just surprising _iewers at the end of Series 10

The _iewers that they haven't lost that is.

I don't watch it anymore. Steven Moffat has killed the show in my opinion - and is doing the same to Sherlock (most recent series was bloody awful)

A shame really. David Tennant was my favourite Doctor followed by Matt Smith as a very close second.

Really struggled to accept Peter Capaldi as the Doctor - but I don't feel it's his fault, but more the writing.

They could do with someone who isn't a well know star so we have no pre conceived ideas about them. They then might stay in the job for longer.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Tilda Swinton would be interesting.

Where is it decreed the Doctor can only regenerate as white men of varying ages? If they give me a reason for that then a woman wouldn't be possible but maybe he could be a TV.

Wouldn't Dr Who be a step down for Elba ?

Plus I thought he was going to be the next Bond.

I think this id what theyvr bern building up to with the master changing gender and then the tine lord general dude.

Personally i think it will somewhat ruin the show.

Simply because a female can't be the punching bag the doctor frequently is withput it causing outrage.

He constantly gets sniped at by people and the comments/jokes wouldnt work against a female chraxter.

Which means we're left with a character that will appear to be a bitch as she puts down the inteligence of the companion as the doctor always does.

Or a dr that doesn't do that anymore.

Either way it will ruin the dynamic

Dr Who sucks

(while I loved it from the early days and into some of the early 90's), the concept is there but it's just so poorly executed...its rare for me to find any sci-fi/fantasy from terrestrial british telly that's even watchable.

"Well if The Master can become Missy why can't we have a lady Doctor."

Becsuse thst ruined the master.

He went from a pathetic wretched morality tale to "quirky girl power" and that was it.

No more emotional looks into his motivstion or mental damage.

Just quirky funny master.

Because criticism of such a woman character would draw negative oress

"Missy" undid seasons worth of the Masters chracter development.

Could you see the doctor crying over her?

As a fan i dont think its a big deal what gender the doctor is, the fact that people go mad about the idea of a female doctor, shows more bout there tiny limited imagination for a fantasy show.

I remember a friend going mad when they unveiled the female Thor and at one time they had a horse as Thor.

Why do we have to stick to gender stereotypes/heternormative responses on this?

We'll never move on if we stick to seeing the responses in terms of male put down OK, female put down bitchy.

I believe Chris Marshall (Death in Paradise) will fill the role. he quite the show a few days after Peter Capaldi quite Who....maybe a coincidence but I think hEd be great. sort of a combination of Tennant, Smith and a bit of Peter Davison.

Because the special snoflakes will complain it gets in the press somone loses thiet job and once again everyone is too afraid to change things.

And thats not what i said.

I said she would seem bitchy as she would be putting down the male companion who never puts her down.

So bitch/bastard.

The dynamic works currently as the female compabion always puts down the doctor.

Male compabion wont be able to do that

As has happened time and time again.

Ok look at it this way.

The doctor is an emotionally unaware character hence his human companions role in trying to get him to be "more human" and in return he mocks thier inteligence before he realises they where right all along.

But can that work eith the roles reversed?

Can we have a woman with zero emotional sensitivity and her sentive male cpubter part always telling her how she should feel?

No one is considered as a lead contender; at this point you may as well say that the dog from the Churchill adverts is a contender!

...and why oh why does someone recommend Idris Elba for every major role that comes up?

Is he short of work or something?
