I have a 6ft x 6ft super king size bed. The mattress alone cost me £1k, it's that heavy I can't lift it on my own to flip it over

I changed my mattress last year from an orthopedic to a combination one with layer of sprung & layer of memory foam and it was best thing I ever did...sleep sooo much better now, makes getting out of bed a bit harder tho, might be a tad too comfy!

Mine is a king sized Memory foam one. The full one, not a half and half. I always get a great nights kip on it. The difficult thing about them is that they are very heavy and turning one end to end on your own isn't easy (you don't turn a memory foam mattress upside down).

Bought a Hypnos Orthos Cashmere and after 6 months there is hardly any support in it. It's dipping in the middle and I'm having to turn it every 4 odd weeks. I have actually been putting off contacting the retailer as I don't need an argument.. I'm that disappointed I want my money back for a different mattress (it'll be unlikely they'll do this and just repair or replace it). Took me ages to find one that was good - it was perfect in the store but it's 10 year guarantee - it'll be falling apart after 2.

i can shift one of these on my own...

i got 2 king memory foam mattresses, one on top of the other. really comfy unless one of you is heavy and makes it dip, then you start rolling into them.

Definitely go back. I had a Dreams mattress the first one dipped after a year and they replaced with a different one. That one dipped and I just put up with it 9 years. One day I passed the shop and went in, he gave me a number to call and someone came out and he said it was rubbish. I was given £1100 to replace but was recommended to take out another 10years guarantee. Very good service actually.

If you have the wooden slats under it will always end up dipping in the middle the bed chap recommended a piece of ply across to take the weight.

it all depends on your frame and your fitness.

I'd advise you lie down, twist and turn.

Don't prod the bed with your hand for crying out loud.

I have a silent night which has 1000 pocket springs and a layer of memory foam on top with a quilted top over them its so damn comfy, the bedframe is solid oak and rather than slats as such it as big solid beams across so the bed is well supported!

We have the top of the line ikea one with thin layer of memory foam on springs. Very comfortable and feels like new three years down the line. The whole bed is on a hinge so you can open it up giving you lots of storage underneath. One criticism would be that it is fairly warm.

I am really uncomfortable in British beds as they always feel too short. Even though I'm only 6'my feet hang over the end. I used to get them stuck in the bed frame in one of my student flats.

I do have to call them, I bought a hand made bed at the same time, the slats are solid pine but I understand the divan base you mean. The amount of trouble I have had this year getting refunds is beyond a joke. Like others, I need cool but now want ultra comfy - the mattress toppers that are incredibly thick seem wonderful in hotels but are on top or integrated with the mattresses. Has anyone bought one identical to Premier Inn? Intercontinental Hotels have had my ideal beds.

Thinking the problem would be solved. They took old one away and brought new.

Ohh it was like a rock so within the 40 days I called them and said it wasnt suitable. Chose the Chantilly and they changed it..(cost me £30 delivery)

This one is much better .

good luck finding one. It is certainly worth a try.

I was interested in the Hypnos but haven't tried it. I saw a truck full of them being delivered to a Prem and they looked flimsier than I expected. They must change them regularly at Prem if they can't handle normal use. As we know, hotel use can really test a bed.

We bought a new Silent Night one a few months ago. It has two inch memory foam integrated into the top, which we were slightly dubious about but the reviews were mostly positive and it was on offer so went for it.

It is a lovely firm mattress with the added comfort and support of the memory foam top, which is the best of both worlds for us.

Highly Recommend It

I bought mine new and weight 10.5st at last count. It has the registration date of manufacture so it's not a seconds (I believe you can buy these from Premier Inn). To be honest, the one I tried in store was a lot deeper than the one delivered but as it was that long between order and delivery (about 5 weeks), I took delivery threw my old bed out and started using it. It was only when I looked the mattress up as a refresher that I realised the one I have is thinner. I'm sure of it.

Other people have Hypnos and like them so it might just be this one. 10 turn springs or something - but it's fucking duff.

Ours must be a breathable one then, as we have had no problem with overheating in bed. Although it has been winter so can't be too sure it won't happen in summer.

I've just seen this which gives some good reviews, including ones for duvets, pillows and toppers.

I've been on a mattress magical mystery tour - returned one after it sagged after a year, demanded a refund when the replacement did the same after another year and got it!! Tried out several more since - if you look at all the reviews and buy online you can get many good mattresses on free 100 day no obligation trials.

I've ended going for solid natural latex in quite a firm feel base for lumbar support and then adding a little topping it just to get it perfect.

Good Latex will last about 20 years without sagging apparently. Check out the Latex Sense website.

They recommend latex as being cooler. The Bruno is a good quality firm foam mattress with a latex top layer but was too firm for me. Leesa is another latex topped one.

But I went for all natural latex in the end, fabulous material, and a merino sheepskin for the top layer under the sheet as that breathes like nothing else and feels very luxurious. Hopefully that should be me sorted for many years! If you have a good budget, go for the top end Latex Sense.

I would avoid anything which offer breathable or cool blue memory foam - IMO they have ruined the viscous properties of it trying to get it to breathe. Topping it with wool or sheepskin solves the problem.

Can I make a suggestion

If you live anywhere near an Ikea their expensive mattresses are very good. So a good tip if you are on a budget, check out the charity shops as Ikea donate their shop spoiled mattresses. We got a £250 mattress for £50 and supported a charity in the meantime xx

I've been on a mattress magical mystery tour - returned one after it sagged after a year, demanded a refund when the replacement did the same after another year and got it!!"

Thanks for the inspiration and info good to hear it is possible. I'll get round to contacting them, though I know it'll be a battle them accepting it back or refunding it.

Got a Super King size 16,000 pocket sprung, 16" thick firm mattress from JL on a raised slatted frame. Space underneath to hide anyone I need to, if I accommodated, which I don't

Seriously good nights sleep and that's all the action it gets...

House of Bath has extra deep sheets in a couple of sizes. I have spent a lot of time looking at sheets.

We've had very expensive memory foam ones and given up on them.

Best ever is current one, Ikea superking pocket sprung mattress, less than £400. Love it.

It felt ok at first, but after a while it left a permanent indentation where you lie.

Think it's a gimmick tbh.

Pocket sprung is better.

we just picked up their pocket sprung mattress for the spare room and have to say it looks pretty good, going to test it over the weekend as we need a new one for our bed and were thinking of Harrison again..

got to say at the price of £180 it looks good value in comparison..

will see what its like but it will stay as the spare room one, if its good will get a king size for ours..

the Harrison we have is an excellent mattress but they have gone up and looking at £1200 + which over ten years is nothing but even if the ikea one lasts 3 years then that half the outlay..

I have a 'super orthopaedic' mattress which is VERY firm...I actually bought it in a local shop and told him ( by leaning over with my hands on the edge of the bed ) that it needed a very firm edge.

I had it delivered 20 minutes later

I've added a good memory foam topper. It's bloody fantastic, sleep all night every night

Yes, I got the best result buying a firmish base and then topping it to my exact requirements.
