"Hi all. I know I'm very late to the party. I keep hearing about kodi. Free movies. New ones. Just crazy immense TVs. apparently I buy an amazon fire stick. Stick it into my USB socket on the tv ???? Then what? Thank you for any advice and knowledge Much appreciated " I have one and its great! Before investing in one just do a search on what is legal and what is not with it. Someone local to me has been charged for watching the premier league for free with it. Apparently, the kodi itself is legal but when you use it along side other devices the line is blurred. I can't quite remember exactly which devices are OK to use but if you search you'll see for yourself. Hope this helps

When you plug it in, a load of apps pop up allowing you access to stream the latest and best films. But you can put your own apps on it too.. So in effect you have the globes entire catalogue of onscreen media at your fingertips, including pay per view sports... For free. It's illegal. Just so you know. Look for items in ebay that are listed as jailbroken. Usually firesticks, apple tvs wiis or Xbox ones. All do same thing. Or you can teach yourself how to do it, or upgrade your existing one with new apps.. Through Google and YouTube.. Good luck.

"I need some kind of comparison site to tell me what all the options are for TV now, I've lost track totally of all the widgets and deals on offer!! So if you were starting from scratch what set up would you buy and why?? (I don't need sport, but I do like films and music.) I have unlimited Plusnet broadband but it's not connected to a tv at the moment. I get problems with slow streaming occasionally..... Ta " Buy a TV that has USB connections.. That's how you connect these sticks that are replacing sky and standard TV. You don't need Sky, Freeview etc anymore, not with these apps. Most come with a healthy selection of most sky and Freeview channels, European TV, sports, kids TV and documentary shows. I personally would go for a decent pc,that can stream data all over the home to every device and TV. I password protect all inappropriate stuff for kids. But that was my old life. I'm in a bedsit, saving for my first flat now. I have a phone and a TV.. With Freeview, because my shared WiFi is awful.

"An ex had one, only thing was a lot of the 'new' releases were just bad camera rips at the cinema ive just stuck to torrents instead " Yes, some very new ones do, or if they can have chines subtitles! It's worth waiting a few weeks for better quality versions to come on. But they are still there way before sky in full HD. e.g. Sully was one before uk release, in HD, but it had subtitles.

"An ex had one, only thing was a lot of the 'new' releases were just bad camera rips at the cinema ive just stuck to torrents instead " Torrents and streaming suffer from the same quality of the issues. You need to look for HD versions for good quality and everything brand new will be recorded off an HD video camera hidden in the cinema... Unless it's R5 (region 5/Russian) then it'll be a good copy that's been leaked. I prefer to torrent as I like to have a collection incase Internet goes down or I want to take it on a USB drive round to a friend's house. But you have to be careful, it's illegal.. And many are riddled with viruses, some of which are harmless, some aren't. I'd recommend a good Antivirus software program if you're tormenting and scan the files before you open them up. To help with the illegality issue, I'd recommend a free programme called Peerblock. It's not fail proof.. However, some protection is better than none.. You don't need to be the fastest runner to escape a bear, you just need to be faster than the slowest in the group. There are so many people doing it that they can only chase the worst offenders (people downloading thousands and selling them on) or the people easiest to spot. In the UK you'll get a warning letter from BT or whoever your Internet provider is. If you continue they'll block your Internet and you're possibly in danger of being fined. You can switch providers and continue, but it's a risk. Good luck.. If security is an issue for you.. I'd stick to firesticks and streaming. I use torrents for films, books and gaming (pic and DS games for kids), gaming is harder to figure out though. Any questions?
