A sore throat is a hot, inflamed area. Ibuprofen reduces redness and swelling. Works within approx. 30 mins if you can tolerate Ibuprofen

Thank you. I hadn't thought of that.

I don't work very often and typically I've developed a horrible sore throat the day before I'm due to start a short term stint

In all my working life, it has only ever failed on one person to work on sore throats (excluding people who can't take Ibuprofen for medical reasons)

Ive had an awful sore throat & lost my voice since Saturday. Gargle warm salt water helps with the discomfort & helps get rid of the nasty lurgies too. Feel better soon x

Take paracetamol and gargle with soluble aspirin. A godsend when I had tonsillitis.

...Up on the Downs

I felt gargling with Listerine really helped mine turn a corner! I keep meaning to take some to the pool with me....I have a feeling that's where I picked up the last bug

Ok I'll not suggest it then......I was sorely tempted.

Take ibuprofen and your temptations should become less sore, apparently...

From what I gather Mr T you're often sorely tempted!

Once again thank you to all who've made suggestions. I don't have any soluble aspirin so I've taken paracetamol and ibuprofen and d*unk several very large hot drinks with honey. What really did the trick I feel was painting my nails with the black polish our daughter gave me.
