Dont dislike it.

But its not really something im into personally.

I dont need a specific day to be romantic to a partner buy flowers or a meal out etc as i do that as and when i feel the mood to do it.

So i find valentines day just another way to make money commercially.

Thats my personal view

but traditionally it's the day to celebrate the Christian Sant Valentine. Abd I dare say its origins are older than the catholic fath as they often placed their own celebrations on or near other celebrations.

Personally I think Valentine's Day is an over hyped over sold commercialised version of the original day. It's just another way for big corporations and the capitalist class to keep us spending by making us feel inadequate and guilty.

It's a pointless, made up day invented just to make money!

Real romance is about the simple little things that you do for your partner every day. It has nothing to do with grand overblown gestures on a single day. Nothing to do with going out to dinner, crammed in so you can barely move your arms to eat. And most definitely nothing to do with spending a fortune on jewellery and/or flowers that will die in a few days.

For us romance is hubby bringing me a cup of coffee in bed and kissing me goodbye before he leaves for work. It's occasionally turning up to collect me from work and going out for a pub meal. It's having a hot water bottle ready for when I get home to soothe my bad back. It's coming with me to my SlimmingWorld meetings now and again so he understands how he can support me.

I cant see how the capitalist class keep us spending and making you feel inadequate they don't force the money from your purse if you want to buy then buy if you don't then don't it your choice Nothing to do with the capitalist class!!! IT'S YOUR CHOICE.

My point. My feet get cold at night. Every night Ben puts a hot water bottle in the bed so my feet are warmed. Every morning he brings me coffee in bed.

Those are the things that matter.

If people don't like it because they don't have a partner at the moment, surely it's ok to be happy for the people who have found love?

Also, you don't have to swept along by the commercial side, any act signifying your love is just as valuable.

Hope everyone has a great day, whether single or as a couple

It's not something we tend to recognise & now you've brought religion into the mix its even more reason for us to ignore it.

I always though the initials were quite comical for such a day too.

For all the hearts and flowers, the chocolates and Valentines, and the commotion and chatter about romance and plans and naughty delights, just remember 'tis but a day. It is one day out of the whole year dedicated to love birds, love nests, and dungeon delights. But just remember if you don't have another to share it with, you are not alone. And if you do, but they don't celebrate it with you, just remember this one thing:

As romantic as this notion is of hearts a flutter and Cupid's arrows coming to find you and bringing people together in lust or love, there is nothing wrong with being unpaired. Do not feel down. You are certainly not alone, and it is nothing to feel sad about. You are still loved, wanted, and cared for, even if it is from inside you, a higher power. It may not be romantic love or lust but there is someone out there who cares, even if it is just me as a friend.

Love has many different facets and is expressed in many ways. We should always show the ones we love that we care. It should not be a day on the calendar or the wares in a shop to remind us. So go forth, take good care of yourself, maybe do some random acts of kindness, open your heart and spread some positivity, for every day is Valentine's Day if you allow it.

There is more to it that the commercial side. Actions speak louder than words.

Bun will be working hard today. So, as a treat, just before she comes home, I will put some soothing music on, get the hot water running, and dribble in some bubblies.

That way everything will be ready for her to do the pots when she gets in.

"I used to enjoy this day but since I don't have a GF/BFF anymore, I hate it as it means being on my own while everyone is enjoying themselves

If a mother whos lost a child can survive mothers day, then i dont think being on your own today is all that bad do u

False comparison. The fact that one person has it worse than another person doesn't mean that the other person isn't suffering.

Suffering. Seriously. Being alone on valentines day and losing a child, yeah coz theres no comparison. Clearly a statement from someone who hasnt

I never said they were the same. I disagreed with what you seem to to be saying, namely that a person who hasn't lost a child isn't allowed to be miserable.

I never said that. Just said others have it sooooo much worse

That's not in dispute. What you did do, however, was dismiss anyone feeling lonely and depressed amid all the loved-up couples today.

Grow up and stop trying to act smart. Mr knowitall. No wonder your lonely"

I'm lonely because I'm an ugly, overweight misanthrope with an overdeveloped sense of sarcasm and a crippling lack of self-confidence. And it's spelled "you're" in this context.

We've also lost a child, however we would never use that as a reason to dismiss anyone else's feelings..

Pancake day is just commercialisation by the big egg and flour corporations.

Plus, what about the gluten allergy sufferers? Have you considered them?

Saint Pancake was actually flattened by a runaway cart and horse, historically the day has nothing to do with food. So it's all rubbish

"Personally I think Valentine's Day is an over hyped over sold commercialised version of the original day. It's just another way for big corporations and the capitalist class to keep us spending by making us feel inadequate and guilty.

(excuse the rant! Haha)"

Well said ??

"In these days of doom gloom. Killing. Terrorism. I welcome any day like this. Its a day to give love and I've had lots from my fellow fabbers which warms my heart. So I thank you for valentines da

St Valentine had his head chopped off, so I don't see any incongruity here

Gosh another one didn't get any cards today. "
