I'm from leeds but I often travel to London for work, it isn't the cheapest place but you don't go to London to sit in your hotel room even if you've been working all day, so I want to hear what you guys like best about the place, would like to try out some new bars/pubs too if you can recommend any!

Clapham high street is fairly local to there and has some decent pubs.

I'm not hugely au fait with the area, or decent spots, but Vauxhall, Southwark and Battersea aren't too far I suppose. Could be worth a venture depending on how long you're down for and what you're wanting

I've seen two - one that was the Lindisfarne gospels and the other was a medieval French Book of Hours - that have been digitised, enlarged and they have this cool virtual book that you can view them with, zoom in on details, find out more &c &c

NW London

Brixton Market is a good place for street food and Coldharbour Lane is worth a look. Plenty of late night spots like 414 and Brixton Jamm.

Heading up to Camden, The Colonel Fawcett is a great tucked away boozer specialising in Gin, Beer and top quality roast dinners.

Soho boozers worth a look are The Toucan (Carlisle Street), Bradleys Spanish Bar (Hanway Street), The French House (Dean Street) and Trishas (hidden away on Greek Street). If you're in Soho and look hard enough you may even find the seven noses!!

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Check out time out and designmynight for events and things going on.

Also take a butchers at Google local guides for smaller meets, good for meeting people.

Personally, I'd avoid soho, it's lost its charm and is just a collection of mediocre bars and restaurants crowded around Ronnie Scotts and a few sex shops.

Head into the city, Liverpool street is the new west end.. Head up Bishopsgate to Shoreditch (loads of bars and clubs) or down towards the Thames and across to Borough market and Southwark.

Just wander, walk down the alleys.. Yep alleys.. Theres a hidden world waiting to be discovered tucked away behind the high rise buildings of the city..

A great night can be had at the proud cabaret burlesque club near fenchurch st station or at the Bavarian bar just behind in crutched friars.

Don't worry if you get lost, it helps sometimes if you do..

Just use Google maps to get your bearings..

Spitalfields is also worth a visit, the old fruit and veg market now converted with a quirky market, bars and restaurants and is only 5 minutes from Liverpool St.

Just behind is Brick lane, famous for curry, although I'd go a bit further east for something more authentic..

And finally, just north of here is the famous Truman brewery which always has stuff going on and definitely worth a visit..

Borough Market is worth a look, especially on an empty stomach and there's lots to see around the area too like Southwark Cathedral and the views across the river. Plus there's lots of historic pubs and riverside boozers.

Always walked back to the hotel from work when time was just for killing, some quirky places dotted into the landscape of most of London.

Midweek get down to theatre land, tickets for most shows are available for a fraction of face value 10 minutes before the doors open, you need to haggle as they start like most touts trying to make big money, but if you are not fussy about which show they know the value is zero once the performance starts.

Unfortunately most museums close at 5ish, but if you can get to them for 15 minutes each day they are worth a visit. When I am teaching, Often out the door by 4:30.

Many pubs are full of contract workers in the same boat as you, with an evening to kill so quite friendly to strangers.

This time of year hit the tourist spots, businesses are open, but empty. you get great service and low prices, which I found made London one of the cheaper city's to be stuck in mid week and out of season.
