Hospital.

I wouldn't want my children to forever remember our family home as the place that their mum passed away.

I would prefer hospital over hospice as I'm hoping whatever takes me makes it quick. I don't want a long, drawn out illness that has me facing death for a prolonged period of time.

Now for me home , however I'd probably choose hospice as I know what a strain it is caring for someone terminally ill at home. It retains your relationship with your family differently rather than making them be carers which doesn't come naturally to everyone.

Probably at home for me. Though I'm not sure it matters as long as I was with the people who made my life what it is. Watched family members die in all three, the hospital was by far the worst.

It doesn't seem it to me. The short time I've been here, there appears to be a pretty good attitude to life.

Death is a pretty important part to life, so I expect people here to have a pretty good attitude to that also.

Talking about it is quite important, and it's sometimes easier to get things clear in your mind with strangers...

It's a question you are likely to come across at some point, if not for yourself.

I can honestly say I've never wondered about where would be the nicest place to die - but peacefully, in my sleep would be good.

Doesn't bother me because I'll be dead afterwards and will neither be pleased, nor upset.

best place to die for me would be falling off a mountain, building or from an aircraft. So cool to enjoy the feeling of the fall but miss out on the landing

But primary choice would be none of the above, I was diagnosed terminal in 2004 and given 6 months to a year... last I checked I still have a pulse.

Sounds like a plan. I have been told that drowning is not the worst way to go nor is hypothermia. I have nearly drowned twice and had hypothermia once and although it didn't end terminally, I think that one or the other might be better than stretching out the misery doped up on morphine in either of the three Hs.

However, by ex-father in law died alone in hospital early this morning, as no-one could get there in time (he was ok-ish yesterday)...

I spent three weeks living in a hospice with my husband before he died. We had been married for 25 years. We were given a room with a double bed and every night I lay next to him and cuddled him. On the last night I fell asleep for two hours and when I woke up he had died but at least he knew I was with him. The care and compassion a hospice provides is far above what you would ever expect and I am eternally grateful to St Gemma's Hospice Leeds.

We are all going to die but it is not something we like to think about much. Ultimately, our loved ones are going to be left with the good or bad memories; not the person dying

Personally, I would like to die whilst I am still able to take care of myself and not when I become a burden on someone. Perhaps a hospice is the best place. I just wanted to hear views and I am sorry that it brought up sad memories for you

I live alone but wouldn't want someone finding an unexpected decomposed mess. It will depend on my circumstances, home life, predictability etc. I'd prefer a peaceful, comfortable death, wherever it is, so home is probably first choice.

But friends have to confiscate the computer, so family don't find all of my sexual data.

That's a poignant ending for you both, very sad but also so moving that you got to cuddle up with your husband each night and was with him when he passed and he knew that, which must have been a great comfort to him. Sounds like the hospice was the best place to be. Thanks for sharing. Xxx

Out of the 3 options most definitely in a hospice. ..having had a family member in a local hospice for 3 weeks it's the best option in my opinion. Caring, considerate and compassionate staff made things so much easier to deal with x
