Boiler leak

Walked into the lounge (not this one) to find trail of water running down the wall.

Have had a nose at the boiler and it looks like the condensate pump assembly is leaking and has been for a while. Boiler started making a funny noise last night.

Any plumbing experts here that can give a speculative guess on cost to fix? Happy to try and provide any other info needed

Worcester Highflow 440 that is nearly 6 years old.

Can you see if its the joints leaking? Any green crustation if its been leaking a while? Could take it out and clean up the joints. Not a plumber btw.

Similar issue with my boiler. When they looked at it though it had more than one issue. So new boiler.

Is yours still under warranty?

It isn't leaking from a joint as far as I can tell. I can see the drips and they aren't near the pipes.

I'll have to check the warranty status but it is 6 years old next month so I doubt it

A British gas engineer came and fixed our boiler this winter for £70 including parts.

Everything guaranteed for a year.

Excellent service and price.

Some Worcesters have an 8 year warranty but usually you have signed up for an extended warranty

Yes always serviced annually. Second Worcester boiler that we've had and always very reliable which is why finding a leak is a bit of a concern

I can only go by experience of being a heating assessor who visits hundreds of people and hearing the same thing over and over

Pay around £45 to £50 an hour for work on boilers. Get a Quote for the work, not an estimate. Call someone out during weekday working hours, not evenings or weekends. And don't forget everyone likes to be paid cash.

Our heating engineer always used to say to avoid British Gas unless you want to be overcharged, the company he used to work for always ensured their quotes were significantly lower than BG. Now he has his own company I think his prices may no longer reflect the same principle given the money his wife seems to spend now. Thankfully we are friends so get mates rates.

Yes it is a concern as Worcester are sealed units and generally don't leak unless it's quite bad I've seen inside Worcesters that have internal leaks and the inside is rusted and completely fucked (technical term)

I've never actually seen your type of Worcester I deal with Greenstars

I can only go on personal experience.

Some of their schemes are excellent value for money especially for ageing boilers.

Hmm it is a Greenstar Highflow 440 CDi. We have a magnaclean unit attached to filter it out. I'm wondering whether the condensate system is a bit clogged up and backing up a bit?

Our regular plumber (and the guy who fitted it) seems to have gone AWOL recently so I'll give someone a ring in the morning and see if we can find someone reliable

Our regular plumber (and the guy who fitted it) seems to have gone AWOL recently so I'll give someone a ring in the morning and see if we can find someone reliable"

How cold is it outside? It's not uncommon for a badly installed condensate pipe to freeze outside. The condensate then backs up and either causes the boiler to trip or leak from the easiest, poorly fitted joint. Easiest check is to split the first outside joint and check that the condensate is flowing and not frozen.

take the cover off, look inside where the water is from. most boilers have a little pot which is full of water, some times the pot is full or has small fragments blocking the pot, and needs cleaning out.

my boiler did this back before xmas, took cover pot was overflowing with water as blocked. make sure you turn the boiler off tho and be careful as some have a special sensors or ways to remove. check your manual also.

if you dont feel safe book a engineer, some are cheap £50-70 flat fee for the hour if not parts used

Dealt with a few boiler breakdowns. It's a relatively easy check and one you could do yourself.
