ok....as most of you know i am not a big footy fan!!

i know there is a big mahoosive rivalry between villa and blues (look at me sounding like i know what i am talking about

) but i really cant get my head around all the hoo ha around this McLeish bloke

is he a good manager?

did he do well at blues?

surely he would only be selected for villa (if he is that is)if he could benefit the club and surely thats what everyone wants? success, promotion etc??

oh and i know its about footy but lets keep it friendly boys and girls

i dont think you can call the opera "value" seing as its the most heavily subsidised art ,seen by the least amount of people .

re the blues v villa thing ..i have been a blues fan for over 40 years and if they want the manager who took us out of the premier league be my guest, i wont lose any sleep. As for why the Villa villans are unhappy ...they are like that ...moan at anything..lol

The McLeish situation is more to do with a particular clause in his contract that states if another club want him they have to pay Birmingham £4.5m, but Birmingham have been relegated so that figure drops quite significantly and Villa need to secure McLeish by July 1 to trigger that lower figure. A deal couldn't be done between City and Villa due to the animosity between the clubs and McLeish, being an ambitious man, wanted to remain a Premiership manager so he had to find a way out of his current deal and move to Villa. He found the loophole by resigning claiming constructive dismissal which he backed up by stating that a new clause inserted into his contract meant that he had to take City back into the Premiership immediately. In reality, what this means is that if City don't perform well in the first third of the next season in the Championship the directors could sack McLeish and he would forego any compensation he might have got otherwise. Plus the role at Villa would have been filled and he would have ended up a manager without a club.

The perverse thing is - Villa fans don't want him either.

1. brilliant engineers

2. great universities

3. good military history

4. history suppression of culture

5 women with sexy accents

You'll get no argument from me about Scottish football managers. Ferguson is a jock, Bill Shankly was too, as is Kenny Dalglish (although he still has some ways to go before being considered a truly great manager). Some of the best managers these islands have ever produced have come from Scotland.

Hence the buyout clause in his contract. He is a good manager and he's considered to be one of the best for spotting new talent. City's loss could well prove to be Villa's catalyst to the big time again.

Scotland, for reasons it has no control over, is just too small a nation to support most of our talent.

For as long as I can remember and back into my father's and grandfather's peers were lured by the $ (US or AUS) and the yen for the Yen.

For far too long our brightest and our best have joined the crowds sailing from the Broomielaw or became £10 Poms or otherwise sought fame and fortune beyond our shores.

The military history is a good point. It's reckoned Scots fought in every land conflict since 1066 - on both sides!

We didn't supress our own culture. The aftermath of the 1745 Rising found us forbidden to wear the plaid, play the pipes or speak Gaelic, but it wasn't the Scots choice. Gaelic has never recovered (and probably never will).

We have 5 great universities and whole bunch of others which do their best. I'm kidding about that a bit 'cos Strathclyde Uni produces the best naval architects in the world.

Somehow i dont think your arguement stands up there. How can a manager who has been relegated and have a bigger budget than several teams who stayed up, be the best £ for £ manager?.

£ for £ the best manager would be Arsene Wenger, simply because he has an overall playing budget surplus over the last 6-8 years. And has a proven track record of buying players cheaply and selling them at the top of the market price.

David Moyes is a far better than Mcleish will ever be at talent spotting. I dont remember him ever being relegated.

I dont know how a man who has just taken a team down is so highly thought of. I suggest you also take a look at Ian Holloway instead - he had the lowest budget for a premiership team ever, and even lower than many championship teams (inflation taken into account), yet his team was only just relegated.

ie taking of the stones. leapt to mind and of course the eradication of the highlanders by long shanks and the hired lowlanders.

I read this thread with interest and although i absolutely detest the game and personally would rather watch paint dry,I realise that it brings pleasure ta millions.

As with most things there is always an unruly element ta the game mostly caused by people who want ta cause trouble rather than actually watch

Damn I had just got my Adidas gear on and was ready for a rumble but it's gone all quiet

Seriously as pointed out it is a minority that cause problems at the football, the banter between fans creates the atmosphere and very rarely ends up in trouble.

I can sit with 5 friends and argue and have banter about the football which is part of the game for us, by the way we all support different teams and it's great fun

i always find it quite funny that clubs can sack managers when the going is bad... and then poach someone elses... but yet when the manager wants to go they are suppose to honour contracts....

mcleish did well at hibs, and rangers.. was a really good scotland manager and did not a bad job at brum bearing in mind they didn't really give him a lot of money...

is he the person that would take villa forward... probably not....

I am still pissing myself the blue smurfs jumped around when they won the micky mouse cup. Then they got diarrhea and the bottom fell out of their world. Relegated, owners ranting, big Ek faxes them a Dear John fuck off and all the players leaving! Funny as fuck it is! ...........Boing boing we stopped up though
