Im think of stopping smoking and turning to a vape,can anyone give me advice on the many vape machines ie whiching to buy and that sort of thing any advice would be greatfull.

Not trying to brag or trying to one up you. But i managed to quit cold turkey after 14 years of smoking. Been quit over a month now.

What ive found is, if your going to quit, you need an incentive to do it. If your doing it just for the sake of it, it will be a lot harder.

My sister did exactly this after 25 years of smoking. 4 years later she still vapes quite happily. My daughter is also a vaper.

Can i suggest you put the money you save from not smoking into a fund and treat yourself to something nice..

Thank you. I also downloaded an app called smoke free. It tells you how long youve quit for, money saved and all that jazz. I find it helps as it gives you a sense of achievement while quiting

As above don't buy cheap liquids or e cig's you might aswell just burn the money try looking on vape club website it has loads of info and help.

And try not to get tobacco flavour juice's as i found they don't really help the cause

Would strongly suggest getting yourself along to a vape shop.

You'll be able to get best advice there,look at and hold various mods and tanks and probably try a few juices for flavour etc

Go onto Facebook and search for a vape group near you - the members there should be able to recommend shops in your area.

Right, let's start at the top.

You're new to vaping so you don't need an all singing, all dancing device with temperature control and 200 watts of power, you want something simple and effective to start your journey.

Personally I'd recommend an Innokin T18 or T22 kit. They come with a great little tank, built in battery and only have one button. They are charged using a phone charger and are tried and true and problems are incredibly rare provided they're used correctly.

If you want something with variable wattage and the ability to use small sub-ohm tanks the the Innokin Coolfire IV can run from 6w to 40w, has an internal battery and can utilize a variety of 22mm tanks. It's what I started out on and Nell still uses it.

As for liquids, the new TPD regulations mean that you're assured quality as they all require registration and stringent batch testing, even the cheap ones. You can't really go far wrong with One Pound Liquids. They have a nice range of flavours and are only £1 a bottle. Start at 18mg strength and work your way down.

Loads of advice can be found on the Planet Of The Vapes website/forum. There's also a classified section and regular discount codes for various vendors.

Also, don't rely on what a vape shop tells you. Many of the people in them are just employees with little practical knowledge of what they're selling and the potential dangers of getting it wrong.

They'll quite happily sell you Efest 18650 batteries that claim to be 60a with a 3500mah capacity when no such battery actually exists and the truth is they're a 10a battery with a dodgy label on them.

There was a report last week of a guy who asked a vape shop to put new wicks in his RDA (dripper) and they used blue paper towel rather than organic cotton.

I even had to go down to my local vape shop when they asked me to teach them how to build, install and wick coils and tanks.

When you go to get your vape, they will offer you devices from between £30 to £150.

Now the question is, is this a replacement for smoking? or a way to quit?

If it is a way to quit, enter at the £30 to £50 region, you don't want some specialist device, and I would recommend getting just tobacco flavoured liquids. There is no point getting in to a flavoured liquid because you won't want to stop using it, you will find tobacco flavoured ones barely taste of anything and will be useful in stopping.

What it comes down to is, you are buying a dodgy battery that you poor liquid over constantly. Don't worry too much about it, just get one that suits your needs. You don't have to walk down the street like a steam train, you just have to quit smoking!

Also, we don't know if it is better than smoking yet. We won't know until we have a couple generations of people born after extensive vaping! But "anything is better than smoking" apparently so knock yer socks off.

I haven't touched a fag since I started vaping and have absolutely no intention on doing so.

I now mix all my own liquids and build all my own coils. It probably costs me about £15 a month in total (if I didn't keep buying mechs and RDA's!).

Pop down to B and M's and get yourself a vape from there. They sell the liquid for 95p and the vapes start at £6. Enough to start you off to see how you go before splashing out any more than is necessary. You just change the atomizer every 4 weeks. They sell them for a £1.

Although, I'm more talking about the long term effects. We won't know for generations if it has any harmful effects. That's the way it is with anything we put into our bodies. I guess what I mean is, Don't worry about it! Let the next few generations deal with it!

Totally agree that long term effects of vaping won't be known for some time.

So I would suggest vaping for as long as it takes to get you off cigarettes... but also making that the shortest time possible..

Think of it as a transition tool with the ultimate aim of being non-dependent on either cigarettes or e-cigarettes

Your lungs will thank you for it one day! And remember that ten years after you've stopped smoking, your lung cancer risk is half that of someone who's continued to smoke

As for "long term" do you know when the first electronic cigarette was patented?

You'd be surprised.

The liquids used were quite different though, they didn't start using stuff similar to what we use now until the 60's.

Buy a good kit with a good battery, most batteries last 12 hrs easily, start on 18mg juice and work your way down over a few months.

My mum abruptly stopped smoking 20 a day after 40 years by getting herself addicted to a Playstation instead. She got so absorbed in Rayman etc that she forgot to smoke.

Switched to vaping just after Christmas got a starter kit as a present haven't looked back since well unless am out drinking then I crave a real smoke for some strange reason other than that the vaping is fine. Well done for switching

Current guidance says that after 6 months of not smoking you can class yourself as a non smoker.

My advice (and generally the same on similar threads) is list yourself as a none smoker, but be clear on your profile write up that you vape, as some people still see it as smoking and dislike it.

That's what I've done on our profile.

I've been vaping over twelve months, have the odd ciggie now and then, probably 3 cigs a month, I started off on a cheap e pen, now I use a cool fire 4+, use zombie juice liquid, I feel a lot healthier both phyiscally and financially lol
