Download a decent antivirus software to cleanse your spunky hard drive.

Install virtuabox, and browse your porn from a virtual PC. Don't save the machine when you turn it off... The virtual machine (VM) will insulate your computer from any nasties, and any viruses will be gone when you switch the VM off.

use adblock, and any ad blocker that seems legit. and turn off pop-up via your browser.

this will help a lot.

mcafee might be the virus, speaking from experience.

i've got an add-on that blocks mcafee from downloading itself to my laptop.

malwarebytes will discover everything, failing that google how to remove a trojan virus and do that. isn't that hard to do with a guise.

I would forget about x-hamster, so many pop ups with that site. I myself use xvideos, get a little preview of video before you play it too, sooooo handy.

As said by others, if you can get malwarebytes installed, then scanning your laptop, it will find stuff that antivirus sw doesn't. Perhaps use your phone as a network to download it? Router resetting is good tip too - often leave switched off for couple of minutes to do it. Check status of isp network, in case that's a separate issue.

How do you propose he isolate other machines on the network? Or the host machine?

What your proposing only has limited protection because there's no network isolation.

Worthing

Install adblocker. Virus injection via ads is the usual 'drive-by' method of infection. Browse with a restricted account and use that just for websites such as those. Make regular backups. It probably uses flash so you will need to keep that active unfortunately. No script is useful.

On the contrary, the host PCs internet connection is passed through without the VM having any knowledge of the host at all.

That's irrelevant for what you're suggesting your solution offers the OP in terms of protecting him from malware and spyware. The host is aware of the guests network traffic and its the host you're trying to protect.

The hosts TCP stack has to pass the traffic, the Virtualbox software TCP stack performs a NAT. An infected guest OS would still have access to the whole of the hosts local LAN, including the host itself.

You've protected the host from infection by some basic malware using this method, but anything that looks to self-replicate (such as Ransomware) would rip through this setup like tissue paper. It infects another machine on the network and then infects the host machine right back.

The only true way for this solution to offer a reasonable level of protection would be through the use of VLAN derived network isolation with a router capable of supporting a DMZ (e.g running say DD-WRT or Tomato).

It would be far better to suggest that the OP gets himself Chrome with some good Adware/Malware blockers, plus a good Anti Virus and Anti Malware product. Thats not foolproof, but its a far better level of protection than a saved-state virtual machine which (effectively) runs on the same network!

But the virtual box software will allow you to keep the VM totally separate from the host network, there is no visible network for the VM to see. In most personal setups, there are no other machines involved. You will obviously still have Antivirus installed on the Host machine, plus the windows firewall in place which would help protect the host from anything the VM could try to do. You can also install a Linux distro on the VM, or chrome.

Works for me anyway.
