We often speak so highly about how intelligent whales and dolphins are, but they do seem to like these "lemming-esq" antics. I believe that over three hundred died of the group yesterday, fingers crossed that they can get these ones free too.

I wonder if there isn't some technical way that whales could be deterred from coming close to landfall.

There are theories that they beach due to interference from boats and submarines etc the messes with their navigation.

Also change he's to their eco system can affect them and 8f there isn't enough food in the food chain for them they will manage their population by beaching themselves.

They are highly intelligent. Just because we don't understand why they do it doesn't mean there isn't an intelligent reason for it.
