had a email from my neice who wonted to know if i knew anybody who would like to re home a retired greyhound as he is injured and unable to race anymore

if the owners couldnt find a home for him they were going to put the dog down

so off i went this morning to see if i could offer any help in rehoming this dog with retired greyhound trusts

not thinking myself that i would end up taking the dog as i already have a rescued otterhound (google if your not sure what one is lol)

and youve guessed it ive now got the greyhound

hes 2 years old race name hunters glory we have called him bailey and has an injured ankel hence him not being able to race anymore

wheni asked what would have happened if they couldnt find a home for bailey they said they would have him out down didnt ask how they would do it didnt wont to know

so now im sat here with a otterhound and a grey hound either side of me and asking myself

"why do i do these things "

maybe because im a softie and couldnt see a healthy dog distroyed

Awww bless. I have two rescue dogs a Japanese Akita and a German Shepherd. They do give you unconditional love though. Nice to know there are softies out there .

er...guess

There's an old fellow lives near me. He was widowed a few years back, became a bit of a recluse and you could tell he was getting frail. Back and forward to the shops or occasionally to the pub was about all we saw of him.

To everyone's amazement he took on a greyhound from the trust. It's transformed his life. They're in the park three times a day, he meets other dog owners and they sit and blether in the cafe. It really has saved his life

How right you are about dogs giving unconditionally, my two are an old bearded collie and a crazy loopy softie of a labradoodle, but they love me and keep me company.

Well done you for finding a space in your home and heart for another xxxx

Years ago I had a top greyhound. Won loads of races it did and then some bloke offered me £500 for it. I told him to bog off and went home. Next day I woke up and the bloody mutt had died. I thought, "you git, I turned down £500 for you yesterday!" Then I had a brainwave and rang the guy up and asked him if he still wanted the dog, he said yes, so I took it round to him. He asked what was wrong with it so I made up some bollox about him always being knackered after a race meet and needs 24 hours to recover. He believed me and bought the mutt.

I saw him a few months later and asked him how the dog was. He looked at me and said, "You wanker! You knew it was dead."

I'd beed sussed. I knew it. He knew it. I offered him the money back but he said, "Nah, keep it mate, I more than got my money back for it."

I asked him how and he said, "I raffled it. £1 a ticket and I sold 1,000 tickets."

"But what about the ticket who won? Didn't he complain?"

He said, "Yeah, he moaned a bit so I gave him his quid back."

There's always a positive to be derived from a negative, if you look hard enough for it. hehehehehehe

Notting

PMSL @ Wishy!!!

As for you saving the dog hun - Greyhounds are really rewarding dogs to have - they are very loyal and loving creatures even after all the abuse at the Greyhound tracks.

Good luck and hope you get many a few years outta him

xxxx
