Is the UK classless, or is class as important as it has ever been?

It exists but not as rigidly as it once did I'd say.

The old Etonians will think it does and they are at the top.

But them at the bottom will more then likely think not

The UK is far more obsessed with class than anywhere else I've been to. The divisions are very apparent

I find it the opposite. The Etonians just crack on with life and the 'Working Class' whinge and moan about it at any opportunity.

To some people that may be so ?

To others you could be the opposite too ?

It's difficult to complain when you have nothing to complain about.

I don't think the class you're referring to is the same as the OP is.

Humans will always order themselves in hierarchies. Doing away with the traditional class structure (to a degree) will just create a vacuum for another to replace it.

What is the nature of the complaint?

Do you mean class or pecking order?

As they are two seperate things and pecking order isnt just a human trait but animals birds and insects too.

Class is tribal but the point remains. Take the point and spit out the semantics.

Class is still flourishing here, as a self-perpetuating trap, fuelled by those with most to lose. Sad.

Isn't the upper classes like telling someone you're dominant, alpha male, fantastic?

If you have to tell them.......

I bet if everyone on here was given a form to fill, and one question was a multiple choice to select a "class" you feel you belong to, most of us would not have to think for many seconds before picking.

As long as we all have a perception of there being a class system, there will be.

A very interesting way of looking at it. From when you were a kid, do you think you have always been in the same class?

How do most people define class?

Your job?

Your income?

Whatever they perceive you as?

Whatever you tell them you are?
