I'm watching it but I might end up turning it off... It feels too soon.

Should the BBC have made this dramatisation of the Shannon Matthews 'kidnapping'?

By it do you mean the program or the case? I would have thought that a FLO discussing a case on a chat show is a massive breach if professional integrity. And discussing the program only marginally better. FLOs are there to support the family not to put themselves in the spotlight

I think we may have to have lived it to feel its full resonance

Ask my mum to this day about the Moors Murders and watch the venom fly

It was of her time

I can (just) remember The Yorkshire Ripper being at large

I can remember The Wests and Dr Shipman well along with this case

Because of the massive media coverage at the time, you may feel 'closer' to this case than others ?

Maybe this case isn't far back enough in your mind that the raw portrayals sit well ?

All conjecture of course, but I do share your concerns about the timing

I enjoyed this programme last night and am very glad the BBC made it as it was quality _iewing. Sheridan Smith is a very diverse actress.

The drama focused on the key adults in this case and the victim was very much kept anonymised. It wasn't too soon as the victim is now an adult and I'm sure her identity has been protected throughout her life. I didn't feel in the slightest bit uncomfortable, why should I? We all watched and can probably recount the real time media coverage, it was played out for all of us to see them as it been dramatised now, it didn't spoil what was an enjoyable drama. Looking forward to next week.

That fine line in soon enough for people to remember and too long for people to have forgotten.

I thought it enthralling and a great commentary on life then. If you missed it, then you missed something really really good but if you chose not to see it, then I fully respect your choice.

The Mother is due for release I believe. She was an inadequate Mother, the family have said the dramatisation is inappropriate.

Personally I warched it and thought what the Mother did will have repercussions for all her children for the rest of their lives. That poor child was given another name and life.

The mother, Karen, was given an 8 year sentence, was released in April 2012 and given a new identity.

From what I understand, from the reports and publicity surrounding this programme yesterday, it is intended to focus on the community and it's reaction to the revelations that came about concerning young Shannon, however, I can't help feeling that this gives further publicity to a woman (her mother) who behaved in a despicable manner to her own daughter simply in order to make a large sum of money.

Personally, I feel such dramatisations, call them what you will, should be banned - but then I guess doing so would be considered an infringement of freedom of expression etc and that the easiest response is to simply not watch such garbage.

Sheridan Smith was brilliant I thought, it just seemed so natural and real.

I remember it all on the news and remember thinking something wasn't right when I was watching the mother doing the appeal.

I enjoyed anyway, and yeah they should make it into a documentary to maybe discourage other fruit cakes from pulling the same stunt.

Read an article the other day that told of Karen Matthews being in a fish and chip shop and someone threw hot mushy peas in her face. Clearly her new identity is protecting her well.

4 years in prison from an 8 year sentence is standard. I pity her probation officer though.

Don't know how it works....all I seen tonight was the last 2 minutes, but in that it came up that she was released in 2012....so her license will be up now.

Don't know if she will get any backup as in a probation officer.....but I think shevwill always need it.

Been a bit of a debate about Karen Mathews ex. He was beaten up last week after the moorside was aired.

The question is...he has been moved 5 times for his protection after serving his sentence and is having to move again......so should the film makers stump up for the costs of moving him as they will make plenty of money out of this production..... Or should the tax payer continue to fund this?

I think programmes are going to be made and have been made on about lots of different crimes. As that isn't against any laws then the programme makers are not doing anything wrong, so they shouldn't have to pay.

The vigilantes are the ones in the wrong here.

I don't think so no. They were making a programme so they have to pay people while they are doing that. The fallout from the programme is some idiots have forced a move for one of the people in the programme. The ones who are at fault are the idiots.
