Oh boy...

I have one which I used for around 18 months. If you're afraid of gore, you don't want one - the first time I used it, I was still getting used to 'breaking the seal' and my bathroom looked like the prom scene out of Carrie.

And trim the tail down... I got it twisted in the remains of my hymen. As painful as it sounds.

But it's good value for money when you get the hang of it, you can keep it in for 12 hours at a time, no risk of TSS, and you can have it in when you're waiting to come on unlike a tampon which you can only use when you're on

Love it! I've been using it for about 12 years or so, in that time I've replaced it only once.

Make sure you buy the correct size, otherwise it may not seal properly. Once you get the hang of it it's amazing. I pop to the loo, empty the contents down the pan and wipe or rinse out before putting back in. At the end of the month it gets washed out and put in a tub of steriliser ready for next month.

No towels going to landfill and no tampons blocking drains so it's better for the environment.

Another big plus is the cost. On average I was spending at least 2 quid a month on tampons/towels. That's 24 a year, works out at nearly 300 quid over the last 12 years. In that time I've bought 2 mooncups at 25 quid each and a couple of boxes of steriliser tablets at a couple of quid.

The tail sticks out of the vagina, how could it get twisted in the remains of your hymen inside?

I'm not considering getting one.. as have no use for one.. but over heard a conversation.

Got me wondering when you're at work or wherever and need to come out of the cubicle to wash it in the public sink.. ??

And doesn't it get on your hands???

Because the hymen's external at the entrance.

Probably best to use mother and baby or disabled loo when that is happening .. These days no one really can say you cant use the disabled loo especially if you have a stoma that needs attention. Some disabilities are unseen.

That's where carrying a bottle of water comes in handy. I've normally got one in my handbag all the time anyway

My daughter and I have been using the Femme Cup for a couple of years now.

We're both really pleased with them, though as she's quite heavy she still sometimes uses pads at night. My daughter says she has less pain and less PMT too.

I think they ought to be more readily available and advertised on TV. Would be fantastic for third world countries too.

They are quite effective. You just have to relearn using them, i guess, like when you first use tampons. There's less of a need to empty than you wold change tampons, so less public inconvenience. Lower cost and less environmental impact too.

Purely for the public bathroom situation. Having to pull your jeans up before getting to wash your hands

That's why I carry wet wipes and/or a bottle of water. If the hands get a little bit dirty I clean them off before I pull my pants up. If I don't have either with me I use the disabled or parent and child stall which has a sink in it. There are always ways around things

I don't do well with tampons. Not tried a moon cup yet but I do sometimes use a natural sponge . Works well if I want to swim or hot tub.

I can't wear tampons, they just feel really uncomfortable. I wear the night pads but still leak if I'm having a particularly heavy month.

No, the 'tail' of it would end up poked in the blokes japs eye You can have sex with a sponge tampon, I have used Beppe and Joy division.

Mooncups are great, once you get used to them they are not messy at all. You develop techniques to remove it etc. I used to use some tissue in my hand to remove it . I'm on the depo injection now so no more periods for me

Saying that I don't get periods and I don't think I can handle the day I have one of those again either way I don't think I'll be using a mooncup. I like my tampons and it's comfortable enough for me

There are different types based on the same principle

I used some that had no tail so yes you could.

Ultimately it's about practice to get it in position and out
